RSI Constellation Aquila Standalone Ship Gameplay Guide

The RSI Constellation Aquila is the exploration-focused variant of the Constellation series, built for Star Citizen players who want long-range travel, better cockpit visibility, onboard ground exploration, useful cargo space, and a classic RSI multi-crew ship suited for expedition gameplay. It is not the pure cargo choice like the Taurus, not the combat-balanced Andromeda, and not the luxury Phoenix. The Aquila is the Constellation for players who want the family’s familiar multi-role platform with a stronger exploration identity.

Official RSI lineup material describes the Aquila as the dedicated explorer model of the Constellation series, with a redesigned cockpit for maximum visibility and an onboard URSA Rover for planetary exploration. Current RSI support material also lists the Constellation Aquila as including both a P-52 Merlin and an URSA Rover, while noting that included secondary vessels are handled through the in-game loaner / access system and depend on the parent ship remaining in the hangar.

The Constellation Aquila is the RSI explorer you choose when you want a flyable expedition ship with cargo, rover support, snub-fighter utility, and a classic Constellation layout.

Build Your RSI Exploration Fleet with the Constellation Aquila

The Aquila is one of the more recognizable exploration ships in the RSI lineup. If you are looking to acquire this RSI expedition ship, you can explore our available options in the Star Citizen Ships and Vehicles Collection.

Crew 3–4 current reference Best with pilot, co-pilot, support operator, and optional snub/rover user.
Cargo Capacity 96 SCU expedition cargo reference Useful for supplies, loot, trade, mission cargo, and ground-expedition support, but the Aquila should not be sold as the cargo-focused Constellation.

Included Craft P-52 Merlin + URSA Rover access reference Adds short-range snub support and ground exploration value, but included secondary vessels are handled through RSI’s included-vessel / access system and depend on the parent ship remaining in the hangar.
Exploration Features Improved cockpit visibility and exploration sensor identity Gives the Aquila a stronger expedition feel than the Andromeda or Taurus, but exact scanning gameplay, sensor behavior, and exploration systems may change with patches.
Cargo / Vehicle Bay Internal cargo hold with rover support Gives the ship real planetary mission value beyond cockpit exploration.
Core Gameplay Exploration, travel, ground scouting, cargo support, small-crew missions Best for players who want a flexible Connie with exploration flavor.

Note: Star Citizen vehicle specifications and balance may change during development. RSI’s Ship Matrix also warns that current vehicle specifications can change during 3D design and game balancing, so exact performance, sensors, weapons, and cargo behavior should be treated as gameplay-reference information rather than permanent final values.

What Makes the Constellation Aquila Valuable?

The Aquila is valuable because it gives players a practical expedition package in one ship. It has a large-ship feeling, a walkable interior, useful cargo, a rover for planetside exploration, a docked Merlin for local support, and a cockpit designed around better visibility.

Its main appeal is practical exploration utility. The Carrack is larger and more dedicated as a deep exploration ship. The 400i is cleaner and more luxurious. The Corsair is more aggressive and Drake-flavored. The Aquila sits in the middle as a classic RSI explorer that can still haul cargo, carry friends, support ground missions, and fly like a familiar Constellation.

The Aquila is not the most specialized explorer in Star Citizen, but it is one of the more straightforward exploration ships to understand: fly far, scan, land, deploy the rover, and keep going.

Expedition Gameplay Role

The Aquila’s main role is expedition gameplay. It is designed for players who want to travel, investigate, land on planets, use a rover, and bring enough cargo space to support longer missions.

In practical gameplay, the Aquila fits several roles:

Gameplay Use Why the Aquila Fits
Planetary exploration Included URSA Rover gives the ship clear ground-exploration value.
Long-range travel Constellation size and layout make it feel like a true expedition ship.
Small-crew exploration Pilot, co-pilot, rover user, and Merlin pilot all have possible jobs.
Mission cargo and supplies 96 SCU gives useful support storage.
Bunker and ground missions Rover support makes surface operations more flexible.
General multi-role use Still has cargo and combat capability even though it is exploration-focused.

The Aquila should be described as an exploration-focused Constellation, not a pure science ship or a dedicated combat ship.

Cockpit Visibility and Scanning Identity

One of the Aquila’s main differences from other Constellation variants is its redesigned cockpit. Official RSI material specifically describes the Aquila as having a redesigned cockpit for maximum visibility.

This matters because exploration ships are not only about numbers. Visibility affects the feeling of travel, landing, scanning, sightseeing, and flying over terrain. The Aquila feels more natural for players who want to look around while exploring planets, moons, and points of interest.

Current community reference material also describes the Aquila as replacing the base model’s top turret with an advanced sensor suite, giving it a stronger exploration and scanning identity than the Andromeda.

The Aquila trades some combat focus for better exploration visibility and sensor identity, which makes it feel more like an expedition ship than a standard gunship.

URSA Rover and Ground Exploration

The included URSA Rover is one of the Aquila’s main selling points. RSI support material lists the Constellation Aquila with an included P-52 Merlin and URSA Rover, while explaining that included secondary vehicles may not appear as separate pledge-line items and depend on the parent ship remaining in the account hangar.

For gameplay, this gives the Aquila a clear planetside loop:

  • Fly to a planet or moon.
  • Land near the target area.
  • Deploy the rover.
  • Scout terrain, outposts, bunkers, or surface objectives.
  • Return to the Aquila with loot, supplies, or mission progress.
The Aquila is more practical than many exploration-flavored ships because it does not stop at orbital travel; it also brings a rover for surface exploration.

P-52 Merlin Snub Fighter Utility

The Aquila also includes a P-52 Merlin as a docked snub fighter. RSI support material confirms the Aquila’s included P-52 Merlin and URSA Rover pairing.

The Merlin gives the Aquila extra local utility. It can be used for short-range scouting, quick local movement, distraction, or light combat support. It should not be described as a full independent fighter because it is a snub craft, but it adds personality and tactical options.

The Merlin gives the Aquila a short-range support craft, while the URSA gives it a ground exploration vehicle. Together, they make the Aquila feel like a practical expedition package rather than just a large cockpit with cargo space.

Cargo and Mission Utility

The Aquila has 96 SCU of cargo capacity, which makes it more useful than many pure exploration ships for practical gameplay.

That cargo can support:

Cargo Use Practical Value
Mission supplies Carry weapons, armor, medical items, and equipment.
Loot storage Useful after bunkers, outposts, and surface missions.
Trade runs Enough capacity for casual cargo profit.
Expedition equipment Supports longer travel and ground operations.
Vehicle-supported missions Cargo bay supports rover-based exploration.

The Aquila should not be sold as a cargo-focused Constellation. The Taurus is better for that. But 96 SCU gives the Aquila enough practical utility to avoid feeling like a one-purpose ship.

Combat and Defense Expectations

The Aquila can fight, but it should not be positioned as the combat Constellation. The Andromeda is the stronger default recommendation for players who want missiles, turrets, and classic gunship balance. The Aquila is better for players who accept a more exploration-focused layout.

The Aquila can defend itself and handle general combat situations, but its main reason to buy is exploration utility, not maximum Constellation firepower.

This is especially important for customers comparing Aquila vs Andromeda. If they want the stronger combat Connie, recommend the Andromeda. If they want the explorer Connie with rover identity and better cockpit visibility, recommend the Aquila.

Solo and Multi-Crew Gameplay

The Aquila can be flown solo, and many players use Constellation ships that way. However, its reference crew range is 3–4, and the ship becomes more interesting when friends can use the rover, co-pilot systems, cargo bay, or Merlin.

A practical Aquila crew may include:

Crew Role Purpose
Pilot / Captain Handles flight, route planning, landing, and main ship control.
Co-Pilot / Scanner Operator Supports navigation, scanning, systems, and mission awareness.
Rover Driver Handles planetside scouting and ground exploration.
Merlin Pilot Uses the snub for local scouting or light support.
Support Player Helps with cargo, equipment, loot, or FPS mission support.

A practical Aquila expedition should feel like a small exploration run rather than a simple cargo flight. The pilot needs to choose a route, bring supplies, pick a safe landing area, and decide when to deploy the URSA instead of landing directly on top of the objective. The rover becomes useful when the terrain is rough, the target area is risky, or the crew wants to approach a bunker, outpost, or surface point more carefully. The Merlin can add short-range scouting or local support, but it should not be treated like a full independent fighter. In real use, the Aquila works best when the ship, rover, cargo space, and small crew all support the same loop: travel to the area, scout from the air, land safely, explore by ground, collect what matters, and return before the mission becomes too exposed.

The Aquila is a good ship for solo owners who sometimes play with friends. It is not as crew-dependent as a large capital ship, but it clearly becomes more enjoyable when multiple players use its full package.

Aquila vs Andromeda

The Aquila and Andromeda are the two Constellation variants many players compare first.

Ship Best For Main Difference
Constellation Aquila Exploration, visibility, rover use, expedition gameplay Trades some combat emphasis for exploration features and an onboard URSA Rover.
Constellation Andromeda Balanced combat, cargo, missiles, turret gameplay Better for players who want the classic gunship-freighter Connie with stronger combat identity.
Choose the Aquila if you want the exploration Constellation. Choose the Andromeda if you want the combat-balanced Constellation.

Aquila vs Taurus

The Taurus is the cargo version. The Aquila is the explorer version.

Ship Best For Main Difference
Constellation Aquila Expedition and ground exploration Includes exploration identity, better cockpit visibility, URSA Rover, and P-52 Merlin.
Constellation Taurus Cargo profit and freight value Much more cargo-focused, with RSI material describing the Taurus around its large 168 SCU cargo hold.
Choose the Taurus if your main goal is cargo profit. Choose the Aquila if your main goal is exploration, rover gameplay, and a more complete expedition package.

Aquila vs Phoenix

The Phoenix is luxury-focused. The Aquila is exploration-focused.

Ship Best For Main Difference
Constellation Aquila Exploration and expedition gameplay Better for travel, rover support, and exploration identity.
Constellation Phoenix VIP luxury, comfort, premium interior Better for players who want a luxury Constellation experience.

The Phoenix is the ship for style and comfort. The Aquila is the ship for discovering new places.

Constellation Aquila vs Corsair

The Corsair is better for players who want a more aggressive Drake exploration gunship with heavier combat personality and 72 SCU cargo. The Aquila is better for players who want a classic RSI expedition ship with an included URSA Rover, P-52 Merlin, 96 SCU cargo, and better cockpit visibility. Choose the Corsair for rugged firepower and Drake style. Choose the Aquila for a cleaner RSI exploration package with rover support.

Constellation Aquila Strengths and Limitations

Strategic Strengths Operational Limitations
Dedicated Constellation exploration identity. Not as combat-focused as the Andromeda.
Redesigned cockpit gives better visibility for travel and exploration. Older Constellation layout may feel less modern than newer ships.
Included URSA Rover gives useful ground exploration value. Included secondary vehicles depend on the parent ship and are handled through RSI’s access/loaner system.
P-52 Merlin adds short-range local support. Snub utility is situational and not a full independent fighter replacement.
96 SCU cargo gives useful mission and supply space. Taurus is better for cargo profit.
Good small-crew expedition package. Full exploration gameplay systems may continue evolving.
Classic RSI ship with clear long-term recognition. Carrack and 600i Explorer offer larger or more premium exploration paths.

Who Should Buy the Constellation Aquila?

The Constellation Aquila is best for players who want a classic RSI exploration ship with a practical package: cargo, rover, snub fighter, multi-crew layout, and better cockpit visibility. It is especially suitable for exploration players, small groups, planetary scouts, Constellation fans, and players who want a ship that can support both space travel and ground missions.

It is also a good choice for players who like the Constellation shape but do not want the more combat-focused Andromeda or the cargo-focused Taurus. The Aquila gives the Connie family a stronger adventure role.

Players who mainly want combat should choose the Andromeda, Redeemer, Corsair, Vanguard, or Guardian. Players who mainly want cargo should choose the Taurus, Starlancer MAX, C2 Hercules, or Caterpillar. Players who want a larger dedicated explorer should look at the Carrack or 600i Explorer. But for players who want an exploration-focused Constellation with an included rover and Merlin, the Aquila remains one of the more direct RSI expedition ships.

Constellation Aquila FAQ

Is the Constellation Aquila worth buying in Star Citizen?

The Constellation Aquila is worth buying if you want an exploration-focused Constellation with better cockpit visibility, an included URSA Rover, a P-52 Merlin, 96 SCU cargo, and useful small-crew expedition gameplay. It is not ideal if your main goal is maximum combat or maximum cargo profit.

Is the Constellation Aquila Flight Ready?

Yes. Current community game data tracks the Constellation Aquila as Flight Ready since Alpha 3.0.0. For product pages, the safest wording is Flight Ready / current gameplay reference, while noting that exact specifications may change during balancing.

What is the main role of the Constellation Aquila?

The Aquila’s main role is exploration and expedition gameplay. Official RSI lineup material calls it the dedicated explorer model of the Constellation series, with a redesigned cockpit and onboard URSA Rover.

How much cargo does the Aquila have?

The Constellation Aquila has 96 SCU cargo capacity in official RSI store reference material. This gives it useful expedition storage, but it is not the cargo-focused Constellation variant.

What vehicles are included with the Constellation Aquila?

RSI support material lists the Constellation Aquila with a P-52 Merlin and URSA Rover as included secondary vessels. These included vessels may not appear as separate pledge items and depend on the parent ship remaining in the owner’s hangar.

Does the Aquila include an URSA Rover?

Yes. Official RSI lineup material specifically describes the Aquila with an onboard URSA Rover for planetary exploration, and RSI support material lists the Aquila with an URSA Rover as an included vehicle.

Does the Aquila include a P-52 Merlin?

Yes. RSI support material lists the Constellation Aquila as including a P-52 Merlin. This gives the ship short-range snub-fighter utility, but it should not be treated as a full independent fighter replacement.

Is the Aquila good for solo players?

Yes, the Aquila can be flown solo, but it is better with a small crew. A solo pilot can use the ship for travel, cargo, and general missions, while friends can add value by operating the rover, Merlin, scanning support, or ship systems.

Is the Aquila good for combat?

The Aquila can defend itself, but it is not the best combat Constellation. The Andromeda is a better choice if combat is the main goal. The Aquila is better for exploration, visibility, rover support, and expedition gameplay.

Choose the Constellation Aquila if you want the exploration-focused Connie with better cockpit visibility, URSA Rover support, P-52 Merlin utility, and a stronger expedition feel. The Andromeda is the better combat multi-role Constellation, while the Aquila is the better exploration Constellation.

Is the Aquila better than the Carrack?

No, not as a dedicated deep explorer. The Carrack is a larger and more specialized exploration ship. The Aquila is easier to own, easier to understand, and better for players who want a smaller classic RSI expedition ship.

Can the Aquila carry vehicles?

Yes, the Aquila is designed around carrying an URSA Rover, and RSI support material lists the URSA Rover as one of its included secondary vehicles. Exact vehicle fit and cargo behavior may change with patches, so product pages should focus on the official URSA pairing rather than promising every possible vehicle.

Does the Aquila have good long-term value?

Yes. The Aquila has useful long-term value for players who want a flyable RSI exploration ship with a rover, snub fighter, cargo support, and small-crew expedition gameplay. Its main limitation is that the Andromeda is better for combat, the Taurus is better for cargo, and larger ships like the Carrack are stronger for deep exploration.
