Why are the names of the Star Citizen ships I received different?

MISC Starlancer TAC Standalone Ship Gameplay Guide

The MISC Starlancer TAC is a large patrol gunship built for Star Citizen players who want deep-space combat capability, squad support, medical utility, and flexible multi-role gameplay in one ship. Designed by Musashi Industrial and Starflight Concern, the Starlancer TAC is not a pure cargo hauler like the Starlancer MAX. It is the tactical combat variant of the Starlancer family, trading cargo focus for heavier weapons, troop support, a Fury-sized hangar, and onboard medical capability.

Unlike dedicated warships that require a large crew, the Starlancer TAC gives players a more practical combat-support platform. It can carry cargo, deploy infantry, support a small snub fighter, provide medical backup, and still bring meaningful firepower to a fight. For players who want one large ship that can support combat, patrol, escort, bunker, and organization operations, the Starlancer TAC is one of the more flexible large ships in Star Citizen.

Official RSI material describes the TAC as a deep-space patrol-focused Starlancer variant with heavy weaponry, a dedicated snub hangar, medbeds, and eight military jump seats. Its official concept specification sheet lists 96 SCU cargo, max crew 7, 2 Tier 3 medical beds, and 1 Fury hangar.

Build Your Tactical MISC Fleet with the Starlancer TAC

The Starlancer TAC is one of the more useful Starlancer variants for players who want more than cargo hauling. If you are looking to acquire this MISC patrol gunship, you can explore our available options in the Star Citizen Ships and Vehicles Collection.

Starlancer TAC Key Specifications

The Starlancer TAC bridges the gap between dedicated combat platforms and multi-role utility transports. Its specifications highlight a ship engineered to operate confidently in high-risk sectors while providing a mobile operations base for your crew.

Specification MISC Starlancer TAC Gameplay Meaning
Manufacturer Musashi Industrial and Starflight Concern / MISC A practical long-range ship manufacturer with strong industrial and exploration identity.
Role Patrol Gunship / Tactical Support Ship Built for combat support, escort, patrol, infantry deployment, and group operations.
Status Current gameplay reference Availability, final balance, and live behavior may change as Star Citizen updates.
Crew Up to 7 reference crew Designed for coordinated multi-crew gameplay without requiring capital-ship staffing.
Cargo Capacity 96 SCU Enough for mission cargo, supplies, gear, and support logistics, but not a pure hauler.
Dimensions 83m length / 52m width / 16m height Large enough to feel like a serious patrol ship while remaining more manageable than capital vessels.
Medical Utility 2 Tier 3 medical beds Gives the TAC useful bunker, FPS, patrol, and recovery support value.
Infantry Support 8 jump seats Supports squad transport and tactical deployment.
Snub Hangar Fury-sized hangar Allows support for a compact snub craft, but the standard TAC does not automatically include a Fury.
Combat Package Heavy turrets, remote turrets, missiles Gives the ship stronger offensive and defensive pressure than cargo-focused Starlancer variants.

Note: Star Citizen ship specifications may change during future patches and balance updates. For product pages, exact weapons, components, cargo, medical behavior, and live availability should always be treated as gameplay-reference information rather than permanent final values.

What Makes the Starlancer TAC Valuable?

The Starlancer TAC is valuable because it combines several useful gameplay roles into one large but manageable ship. It is not just a gunship, not just a dropship, and not just a cargo ship. It sits in a useful middle ground: combat support, medical backup, squad transport, snub support, and limited logistics.

Its main appeal is flexibility. A player can use the TAC for patrol missions, bunker support, escort gameplay, small organization events, cargo-assisted missions, and multi-crew combat. The ship has enough utility to feel useful outside combat, but enough firepower to feel more serious than a normal transport.

This makes the Starlancer TAC especially attractive for players who want one ship that can do many group activities without stepping into the complexity of a Polaris, Hammerhead, Carrack, or Galaxy.

Tactical Patrol Gameplay Role

The Starlancer TAC’s main role is tactical patrol and combat support. It is designed for players who want to move through dangerous space with more confidence than a normal cargo ship.

Gameplay Use Why the Starlancer TAC Fits
Patrol missions Weapons and defensive layout make it suitable for security-style gameplay.
Escort support Can protect friendly cargo or industrial ships better than a normal transport.
Bunker operations Jump seats and medical beds make it useful for FPS-focused groups.
Small organization events Offers crew roles, cargo space, med support, and snub support in one platform.
Daily large-ship gameplay More flexible than many dedicated combat ships.

The TAC is not the best ship in one single category, but that is exactly why it is useful. It gives players a balanced platform that can support many types of missions.

Medical and FPS Support

One of the clearer selling points of the Starlancer TAC is its medical support. The two Tier 3 medical beds make it more useful for bunker missions, ground combat, recovery operations, and long patrol sessions.

This gives the TAC a useful advantage over many other gunships. If your group is doing FPS missions and someone gets injured, the ship can provide nearby medical support instead of forcing the team to return to a station immediately.

For organization gameplay, this is useful. The TAC can function as a small mobile support base for ground missions: carry the team, deploy the team, support the team, and help them recover after combat.

Fury Hangar Utility

The Starlancer TAC includes a Fury-sized hangar, which gives it an interesting support role. A small snub craft can be used for scouting, light combat support, quick response, or local movement around the main ship.

However, this should be worded carefully on a product page: the standard Starlancer TAC does not come with a Fury by default. RSI’s Q&A says the standard TAC does not include any Fury variant as standard.

“The Starlancer TAC includes a Fury-sized hangar, but buyers should check the exact product listing to confirm whether a Fury is included.”

This avoids customer confusion and makes the listing more trustworthy.

Cargo and Utility Gameplay

The TAC has 96 SCU of cargo, which is much lower than the Starlancer MAX, but still useful. It can carry supplies, mission cargo, FPS gear, spare equipment, and some trade goods.

This makes the TAC more practical than many dedicated combat ships. A Hammerhead may be stronger for anti-fighter defense, and a Perseus may be stronger for heavy gunship combat, but the TAC has better general-use utility for smaller groups.

For players who want a combat ship that can still do normal gameplay, the 96 SCU cargo space matters. It gives the ship enough flexibility to support missions instead of sitting unused when there is no combat.

Multi-Crew Gameplay

The Starlancer TAC is best with a crew, but it does not feel as demanding as larger warships.

A practical Starlancer TAC session usually starts with deciding what the ship is supporting: a bunker team, a patrol route, an escort job, or a small organization event. The pilot handles approach and positioning, turret players provide pressure during the fight, one player can stay near the medical beds for recovery support, and the infantry team prepares gear before deployment. If a Fury or compatible snub is carried, the snub pilot can scout nearby space or respond to smaller threats. In real use, the TAC feels strongest when the crew uses all of these tools together instead of treating it as only a big gunship.

Crew Role Purpose
Pilot Handles movement, positioning, landing, and combat approach.
Co-Pilot Supports navigation, systems, shields, and mission management.
Turret Operators Provide the ship’s main combat pressure.
Medical Support Player Helps injured crew or FPS team members.
Infantry Team Uses jump seats for bunker, boarding, or ground operations.
Snub Pilot Operates a Fury or compatible small craft if carried.

This makes the TAC a useful small-organization ship. It gives multiple players meaningful jobs without needing a huge crew count. Solo players may still enjoy the ship, but its best value comes from using its turrets, medical beds, jump seats, and hangar together with other players.

Starlancer TAC vs Other Star Citizen Ships

The Starlancer TAC carves out a modern multi-role niche, sitting cleanly between dedicated dropships and pure structural gunships.

Ship Fleet Option Primary Core Role Compared with Starlancer TAC
Starlancer MAX Cargo / Multi-Role Transport The MAX is better for cargo and trading. The TAC is better for combat, medical support, squad deployment, and patrol gameplay.
Constellation Andromeda Multi-Role Gunship The Andromeda is smaller and more classic as a combat Connie. The TAC offers more modern large-ship utility, medical beds, jump seats, and snub-hangar value.
Corsair Exploration Gunship The Corsair has stronger pilot-facing firepower and rough utility. The TAC is more crew-support focused and better for squad/medical gameplay.
Redeemer Heavy Gunship The Redeemer is more focused on direct combat. The TAC is more flexible, with cargo, medical, infantry, and snub support.
Valkyrie Dropship / Troop Transport The Valkyrie is more focused on infantry deployment. The TAC is broader, adding stronger ship utility, cargo, medical support, and patrol value.
Carrack Expedition / Mobile Base The Carrack is better for exploration and long-range support. The TAC is more combat-oriented and easier to use as a tactical patrol ship.
Polaris Corvette / Torpedo Capital Ship The Polaris is much larger and more powerful as a combat fleet ship. The TAC is more practical for smaller crews and regular tactical use.

Starlancer TAC vs Starlancer MAX

The Starlancer MAX is better for cargo hauling, trading, and players who want the Starlancer platform mainly for profit routes. The Starlancer TAC gives up cargo focus for medical beds, jump seats, heavier tactical support, and a Fury-sized hangar. If your goal is cargo profit, the MAX is the better fit. If your goal is patrol, bunker support, escort, and small-crew combat utility, the TAC has the clearer role.

Starlancer TAC vs Constellation Andromeda

The Constellation Andromeda is a classic multi-role gunship with missiles, snub support, and a smaller overall footprint. The Starlancer TAC feels more modern as a large support platform, with medical beds, jump seats, 96 SCU cargo, and a dedicated Fury-sized hangar. If you want a proven Connie-style gunship, the Andromeda is easier to understand. If you want broader squad and medical support, the TAC is more flexible.

Starlancer TAC vs Redeemer

The Redeemer is better for direct gunship combat and turret-focused damage. The Starlancer TAC is less specialized for pure fighting, but it offers more support utility through medical beds, jump seats, cargo space, and snub hangar options. If your goal is maximum combat pressure from a dedicated gunship, the Redeemer is stronger. If you want a patrol ship that can also support FPS and organization missions, the TAC is the better fit.

Starlancer TAC Strengths and Limitations

Strategic Strengths Operational Limitations
Useful multi-role tactical identity with combat, medical, infantry, and snub support. Not as cargo-efficient as the Starlancer MAX.
2 Tier 3 medical beds make it useful for bunker and FPS operations. Not a dedicated medical ship like the Apollo.
8 jump seats give it squad transport value. Not as specialized as a true dropship like the Valkyrie or Prowler.
Fury-sized hangar adds scouting and support flexibility. The standard TAC does not automatically include a Fury.
96 SCU cargo keeps it useful outside combat. Not a pure hauler compared with MAX, C2, Taurus, or Hull C.
Good fit for small organizations and multi-crew patrol gameplay. Full combat value depends on crewed turret operation.

Who Should Buy the Starlancer TAC?

The Starlancer TAC is best for players who want a flexible large ship with a tactical identity. It is especially suitable for small organizations, bunker teams, patrol groups, escort players, medical-support players, and anyone who wants more than a standard cargo hauler.

It is also a useful choice for players who like the Starlancer MAX but want a more combat-ready version. The MAX is better for cargo profit, but the TAC is better for players who want a ship that can fight, support FPS gameplay, carry a squad, and operate as a mobile tactical platform.

Players who only care about cargo should choose the Starlancer MAX or a dedicated hauler. Players who want pure combat may prefer a Redeemer, Perseus, or Hammerhead. But for players who want a balanced patrol ship with medical and squad utility, the Starlancer TAC is one of the more interesting large ships in Star Citizen.

Starlancer TAC FAQ

Is the Starlancer TAC worth buying in Star Citizen?

The Starlancer TAC is worth buying if you want a flexible patrol gunship with combat power, medical support, squad transport, cargo utility, and a Fury-sized hangar. It is not the best ship for pure cargo profit or pure combat specialization, but it is useful for players who want one ship that can support many group activities.

What is the main role of the Starlancer TAC?

The main role of the Starlancer TAC is tactical patrol and combat support. It is built for escorting, defending, deploying small squads, supporting FPS missions, and operating in more dangerous areas than a normal cargo ship.

Is the Starlancer TAC better than the Starlancer MAX?

The TAC is better for combat, medical support, and squad gameplay. The MAX is better for cargo hauling and trade. If your goal is profit hauling, choose the MAX. If your goal is tactical support and patrol gameplay, choose the TAC.

Can the Starlancer TAC be used solo?

The Starlancer TAC can likely be flown solo for basic travel and light utility, but it is not at its best as a solo ship. Its strongest value comes from turrets, medical support, jump seats, and snub support, which all work better with crew.

Does the Starlancer TAC include a Fury?

The standard Starlancer TAC does not include a Fury variant by default. It has a Fury-sized hangar, but customers should check the exact product listing to confirm whether any snub craft is included.

Does the Starlancer TAC have medical beds?

Yes. The official concept specification sheet lists the Starlancer TAC with 2 Tier 3 medical beds. This gives it useful support value for FPS missions, bunker runs, and small-group recovery gameplay.

How much cargo does the Starlancer TAC have?

The official concept specification sheet lists the Starlancer TAC with 96 SCU of cargo. This is useful for supplies and mission support, but it is much lower than cargo-focused ships like the Starlancer MAX.

Is the Starlancer TAC good for bunker missions?

Yes, the TAC is a useful bunker-support ship because it combines jump seats, medical beds, cargo space, and defensive firepower. It can carry a small team, support them near the mission area, and provide recovery support after combat.

Is the Starlancer TAC good for combat?

Yes, the TAC is built for combat support and patrol gameplay. However, it should not be treated as a pure gunship replacement for ships like the Redeemer, Hammerhead, Perseus, or Polaris. Its strength is balanced tactical utility, not maximum damage in one role.

Does the Starlancer TAC have good long-term value?

Yes, the Starlancer TAC has useful long-term value because it combines several useful systems in one ship: combat, medical support, infantry deployment, snub utility, and cargo space. For small organizations and players who enjoy flexible group gameplay, it should remain a useful tactical platform.
