Why are the names of the Star Citizen ships I received different?

Anvil Ballista Snowblind Standalone Vehicle Gameplay Guide

The Anvil Ballista Snowblind is a limited-edition version of Anvil’s self-propelled air-defense vehicle, built for Star Citizen players who want mobile anti-air protection, ground-based missile pressure, and a rare Snowblind visual identity. It is not a cargo vehicle, troop carrier, tank, mining vehicle, or daily exploration rover. The Ballista Snowblind is best understood as a collector-focused Ballista anti-air platform: the same broad battlefield role as the standard Ballista, but with the limited Snowblind skin identity.

Official RSI material describes the Ballista as a self-propelled air defense system designed to protect ground positions from airborne assault, with eight Size 5 missiles, two Size 7 destroyers, and a remote turret with dual Size 2 ballistic Gatling guns for close protection. Current reference data tracks the Ballista Snowblind as a Flight Ready Anvil ground vehicle with 1–2 crew, Anti-Air role, 17m length, 7m width, and 5.5m height.

The safest product-page positioning is simple:
The Ballista Snowblind is the limited Snowblind version of Anvil’s mobile anti-air launcher — not a separate combat upgrade, not a tank, and not a general-purpose rover.

Build Your Anvil Ground Defense Fleet with the Ballista Snowblind

The Ballista Snowblind is a useful choice for players who want to defend outposts, support ground teams, protect landing zones, and add anti-air pressure to an organization’s vehicle fleet. If you are looking to acquire this Anvil anti-air vehicle, you can explore our available options in the Star Citizen Ships and Vehicles Collection.

Status Flight Ready / current gameplay reference Current reference data lists the Ballista Snowblind as Flight Ready.
Crew 1–2 / driver-and-gunner reference Usable by one player, but far more practical when one player drives and another controls the anti-air payload.

Core Gameplay Base defense, landing-zone denial, org ground operations, anti-air support Best for players who actually use ground combat and surface defense gameplay.

Note: Star Citizen vehicle weapons, missile behavior, lock rules, damage values, armor, shields, transport fit, and ground-combat balance can change between patches. Treat exact live values as current gameplay-reference information rather than permanent final values.

What Makes the Ballista Snowblind Valuable?

The Ballista Snowblind is valuable because it combines two types of appeal: the Ballista’s dedicated anti-air role and the Snowblind limited-edition visual identity. The normal Ballista is already a focused battlefield tool. The Snowblind version adds collector value for players who want the special limited version rather than the standard look.

The Ballista is not a flexible all-purpose rover. It is a ground-based missile defense system. RSI’s Ballista page describes it as built to protect what is yours, deter airborne attacks, and give support on the battlefield.

The Ballista Snowblind is not valuable because it does every ground job. It is valuable because it does one job clearly: pressure enemy aircraft from the ground.

That is the core buyer message. The Ballista Snowblind is for players who want surface defense, not cargo utility or vehicle comfort.

Anti-Air Gameplay Role

The Ballista Snowblind’s main role is anti-air defense. It is designed to sit on the ground, control airspace, and punish ships that approach a defended area carelessly.

In practical gameplay, the Ballista Snowblind fits several roles:

Gameplay Use Why the Ballista Snowblind Fits
Outpost defense It gives ground teams a way to threaten hostile ships from the surface.
Landing-zone denial Missiles and torpedoes can make attackers respect the approach.
Organization ground operations Works well when deployed with infantry, vehicles, cargo ships, and escorts.
Base defense roleplay Fits militia, security, military, and pirate stronghold setups.
Anti-air escort for ground convoys Helps protect vehicles and troops from airborne harassment.
Collector ground-vehicle ownership Snowblind identity gives it more limited-edition appeal than the standard Ballista.

The Ballista Snowblind should be described as a mobile anti-air vehicle, not a tank or general-purpose rover.

Snowblind Edition Identity

The most important difference between the Ballista Snowblind and the standard Ballista is the Snowblind skin / edition identity. RSI’s Ballista Q&A says the Ballista skins were unique to Warbond SKUs, with Concierge backers getting access to Dunestalker and all backers getting access to Snowblind; RSI also said those limited-time offerings would not be pledgeable separately as standalone skins.

Buy the Ballista Snowblind if you want the Ballista role plus the limited Snowblind look. If you only care about anti-air function, the standard Ballista fills the same broad battlefield job.

This helps avoid customer confusion. The Snowblind version should not be sold as a separate performance upgrade unless the listing specifically includes different live components, and even then the safe wording is to treat live loadouts as patch-dependent.

Missile and Torpedo Pressure

The Ballista’s main battlefield value comes from its missile system. RSI’s Ballista page describes it with eight Size 5 missiles and two Size 7 destroyers, while current reference data describes the Snowblind as equipped with ground-to-air torpedoes and eight Size 5 missiles plus two Size 7 torpedoes.

A practical Ballista team uses that payload to:

  • protect a base or landing zone,
  • punish predictable ship approaches,
  • force aircraft to break attack runs,
  • support infantry or vehicle teams from a defensive position,
  • create a danger zone around important ground assets.
The Ballista Snowblind is not about chasing targets. It is about making the airspace around your ground team dangerous.

That is the right way to frame it for buyers.

Stationary Firing and Deployment Discipline

The Ballista is not a drive-by missile truck. Current reference material says its deployable stabilizers must be used while stationary before firing missiles and torpedoes, and RSI’s Q&A discusses the Ballista as needing to be parked to fire torpedoes.

The Ballista Snowblind rewards setup, positioning, and patience more than fast movement.

A good Ballista crew should think about where to deploy before the fight starts. Bad positioning can make the vehicle slow to reposition and vulnerable to flanking.

Gunner and Driver Roles

The Ballista Snowblind is listed with 1–2 crew, and it works best when two players coordinate. Current reference data says the missiles and torpedoes must be fired from the rear gunner seat, while RSI’s Q&A says the missile-turret operator controls that turret and the driver can drive and fire the Gatling turret.

Crew Role Purpose
Driver Moves the vehicle, chooses deployment positions, manages survival, and can use the close-defense Gatling turret.
Gunner / Missile Operator Tracks air targets, manages missile locks, and fires the main anti-air payload.
Scout Spots incoming aircraft and gives the Ballista time to lock and prepare.
Security Team Protects the Ballista from infantry, vehicles, and close-range attacks.
Transport Pilot Moves the Ballista into position using a suitable vehicle carrier.
The Ballista Snowblind is most useful when the driver gets it into the right place and the gunner focuses on controlling the sky.

A practical Ballista Snowblind deployment should feel like setting up an air-defense position, not driving a normal combat rover into a fight. The team needs to decide where the vehicle should sit, how it will be transported, what terrain gives it visibility, and who will protect it from infantry or ground vehicles. The driver gets the Ballista into position and keeps it alive; the gunner watches the sky, waits for locks, and chooses when to spend the main payload. In real use, the Ballista Snowblind rewards preparation, communication, and area control more than quick solo reactions.

Target Lock Expectations

The Ballista’s missiles are not free-fire artillery shells. RSI’s Q&A says all missiles currently require a target lock and that there were no plans at that time for missile free-fire.

The Ballista Snowblind should be marketed as a lock-on anti-air vehicle, not a free-fire ground artillery cannon.

This is important because some buyers may expect it to bombard random ground coordinates. Its current identity is anti-air / guided missile pressure.

Close-Range Defense

The Ballista Snowblind is not helpless at close range. RSI’s Ballista page describes a remote turret with dual Size 2 ballistic Gatling guns for close protection, and current reference data lists dual Scorpion GT-215 Gatlings on its remote turret.

However, this does not turn the Ballista into a frontline tank.

The Gatling turret helps protect the Ballista, but the vehicle still needs positioning and support. It is not meant to brawl like a tank.

For ground-to-ground armor fights, a vehicle like the Nova is a more natural comparison.

Transport and Deployment Expectations

The Ballista is a large ground vehicle. Current reference data lists it at 17m long, 7m wide, and 5.5m tall, which means players should plan how they will transport and deploy it.

The Ballista Snowblind is not a vehicle you casually carry in every ship. Buyers should plan the transport ship before buying the anti-air vehicle.

This is especially important for store pages. The Ballista’s real value appears when it can be placed where it matters.

Direct Vehicle Comparisons

Ballista Snowblind vs Standard Ballista & Dunestalker

The Snowblind, standard Ballista, and Dunestalker variants share the same broad anti-air role. The difference is edition identity and visual styling.

Vehicle Best For Main Difference
Ballista Snowblind Collectors and anti-air players who want the limited Snowblind look Snowblind limited visual edition / Warbond SKU history available to all backers.
Standard Ballista Players who only need the Ballista anti-air role Same broad air-defense vehicle role without Snowblind collector appeal.
Anvil Ballista Dunestalker Desert / sand tactical look RSI’s Q&A says Concierge members got access to Dunestalker.
Choose the standard Ballista if you only care about function. Choose the Ballista Snowblind if you want the anti-air role plus limited-edition style. Choose Snowblind for the cold-weather tactical look. Choose Dunestalker for the desert tactical look. Both are Ballista anti-air vehicles at their core.

Ballista Snowblind vs Centurion

The Ballista and Centurion both belong to Anvil’s Atlas ground-vehicle family, but they solve different air-defense problems. Current reference material describes the Centurion as a short-range anti-air vehicle using a quad-turret of energy cannons, while the Ballista is the missile / torpedo anti-air platform.

Vehicle Best For Main Difference
Ballista Snowblind Long-range missile and torpedo anti-air threat Better for deterring aircraft before they get close.
Anvil Centurion Short-range anti-air cannon defense Better for closer air threats and sustained gun-based defense.
Choose the Ballista Snowblind for missile-based air denial. Choose the Centurion for close-range anti-air gun coverage.

Ballista Snowblind vs Spartan & Nova Tank

The Spartan is an armored personnel transport, while the Nova is a dedicated ground-to-ground main battle tank.

Vehicle Best For Main Difference
Ballista Snowblind Air defense and missile denial Focused on aircraft and lock-on missile pressure.
Anvil Spartan Armored personnel transport Carries troops rather than acting as an air-defense platform.
Tumbril Nova Armored ground combat Better for direct vehicle combat and tank-style fights.
Choose the Spartan if you need to move soldiers. Choose the Ballista Snowblind if you need to protect those soldiers from aircraft. Choose the Nova if the main threat is on the ground. Choose the Ballista Snowblind if the main threat is in the air.

Ballista Snowblind vs Cyclone AA

The Cyclone AA is a smaller, faster anti-air vehicle. The Ballista Snowblind is heavier and more missile-focused.

Vehicle Best For Main Difference
Ballista Snowblind Heavier anti-air deployment More dedicated air-defense presence.
Cyclone AA Faster light anti-air support Easier to move, but not as heavy.
Choose the Cyclone AA for light mobile anti-air. Choose the Ballista Snowblind for heavier defensive commitment.

Solo Gameplay Expectations

The Ballista Snowblind can be operated by one player, but solo use is not ideal. A single player may need to drive, stop, deploy, change seats, lock targets, and fire. Current reference data lists the vehicle with 1–2 crew, and its control layout clearly favors driver-plus-gunner coordination.

Solo Ballista use is possible, but the vehicle makes much more sense with a driver, gunner, scout, and nearby support. Solo players should buy it only if they specifically want ground anti-air gameplay or collector ownership.

Cargo and Utility Expectations

The Ballista Snowblind should not be sold as a utility vehicle. It does not haul cargo, transport troops, mine, salvage, scan, heal, or explore. Its job is battlefield defense.

The Ballista Snowblind is a weapon system, not a work vehicle.

If the buyer wants a ground vehicle for general utility, an Mule, or options like the Cyclone and Spartan may be a better fit.

Combat Balance Expectations

Anti-air gameplay depends heavily on current patch balance. Missile lock behavior, target signatures, countermeasures, terrain, server conditions, vehicle durability, aircraft speed, and ground-vehicle transport all affect how useful the Ballista feels.

The Ballista Snowblind has a clear role, but its live value depends on setup, crew coordination, target behavior, and current missile balance. This is better than promising that it will always destroy every aircraft.

Explore Ballista Snowblind Upgrade Paths

If you prefer to build toward the Ballista Snowblind from another vehicle or ship, you can view our Star Citizen CCU Upgrades and plan a more flexible Anvil ground-defense or collector-vehicle upgrade path over time.

For the Ballista Snowblind specifically, buyers should check the exact listing carefully because Snowblind is tied to a limited Warbond SKU / skin identity rather than a normal separate paint that can always be bought on demand.

Ballista Snowblind vs Other Star Citizen Ground Vehicles

Vehicle Option Primary Core Role Compared with Ballista Snowblind
Standard Ballista Anti-Air Missile Vehicle Same broad role; Snowblind adds limited visual identity.
Ballista Dunestalker Anti-Air Missile Vehicle Same broad role with desert-style limited edition identity.
Centurion Short-Range Anti-Air Cannon Vehicle Better for close air-defense gun coverage. Ballista is missile-based.
Spartan Armored Personnel Carrier Moves troops. Ballista protects them from aircraft.
Nova Tank Ground Armor Combat Better for ground targets. Ballista is built for aircraft.
Cyclone AA Light Mobile Anti-Air Easier to move, but much lighter. Ballista is the heavier air-defense platform.
Ursa Rover Exploration / Ground Utility Better for exploration and travel. Ballista is combat defense only.
Mule Cargo Handling Vehicle Better for logistics. Ballista has no cargo workflow.

Ballista Snowblind vs Standard Ballista

The standard Ballista is better for players who only need the Anvil anti-air role and do not care about edition identity. The Ballista Snowblind is better for players who want the same broad air-defense role with the limited Snowblind visual identity and collector appeal. Choose the standard Ballista for practical anti-air ownership. Choose the Ballista Snowblind for collector-focused anti-air ownership.

Ballista Snowblind vs Centurion

The Centurion is better for players who want short-range anti-air gun coverage and sustained close-defense fire. The Ballista Snowblind is better for players who want missile-based air denial, heavier lock-on pressure, and a more specialized anti-air launcher role. Choose the Centurion for close-range cannon defense. Choose the Ballista Snowblind for missile-based anti-air control.

Ballista Snowblind vs Spartan

The Spartan is better for players who need an armored personnel carrier to move troops across the ground. The Ballista Snowblind is better for players who need a ground-based anti-air launcher to protect troops, bases, convoys, or landing zones from aircraft. Choose the Spartan to move soldiers. Choose the Ballista Snowblind to protect the area above them.

Ballista Snowblind vs Nova Tank

The Nova Tank is better for players who want armored ground combat against vehicles and surface targets. The Ballista Snowblind is better for players who want anti-air missile pressure against ships and aircraft. Choose the Nova if the main threat is on the ground. Choose the Ballista Snowblind if the main threat is in the air.

Ballista Snowblind Strengths and Limitations

Strategic Strengths Operational Limitations
Limited Snowblind identity adds collector appeal. Snowblind is mainly visual / edition value, not a separate ship-class upgrade.
Dedicated anti-air missile and torpedo role. Not useful for cargo, exploration, mining, salvage, or daily travel.
8× Size 5 missiles and 2× Size 7 torpedoes / destroyers give useful anti-air threat value. Requires target locks and good positioning.
Dual Size 2 Gatling turret helps with close defense. Still vulnerable if unsupported or badly positioned.
1–2 crew makes it manageable for small teams. Much better with a driver and gunner than solo seat-swapping.
Useful for base defense, outposts, and org operations. Needs transport and deployment planning.
Atlas platform identity fits Anvil ground-combat fleets. Not a tank or troop carrier despite its armored appearance.

Who Should Buy the Ballista Snowblind?

The Ballista Snowblind is best for players who want a dedicated ground-based anti-air vehicle with limited-edition collector value. It is especially suitable for Anvil collectors, ground-combat groups, org security teams, outpost defenders, military roleplay groups, and players who want to create a real surface-defense layer around their operations.

It is also a good choice for players who already own suitable transport ships and other ground vehicles. The Ballista Snowblind is not a complete ground fleet by itself. It works best when supported by scouts, infantry, transport, escorts, and other vehicles.

Players who want troop transport should compare the Spartan. Players who want short-range anti-air guns should compare the Centurion. Players who want tank combat should compare the Nova. Players who want general travel should choose an Ursa or Cyclone. But for players who want an Anvil anti-air launcher with Snowblind collector identity, the Ballista Snowblind is one of the more direct ground-defense choices in Star Citizen.

Ballista Snowblind FAQ

Is the Ballista Snowblind worth buying in Star Citizen?

Yes, if you want a dedicated anti-air ground vehicle with limited Snowblind collector identity. It is not ideal if you want cargo, troop transport, ground exploration, mining, salvage, or a general-purpose rover.

Is the Ballista Snowblind Flight Ready?

Yes. Current reference data lists the Ballista Snowblind as Flight Ready, with live reference data under version 4.8.2.

What is the main role of the Ballista Snowblind?

The Ballista Snowblind is an Anti-Air ground vehicle. Official RSI material describes the Ballista as a self-propelled air-defense system designed to deter airborne attacks.

How many crew does the Ballista Snowblind need?

Current reference data lists the Ballista Snowblind with 1–2 crew. It can be used by one player, but a driver and gunner setup is much better.

What weapons does the Ballista Snowblind have?

Official RSI material describes the Ballista with 8 Size 5 missiles, 2 Size 7 destroyers, and a remote turret with dual Size 2 ballistic Gatling guns.

Can the Ballista Snowblind fire while moving?

Its main missile / torpedo firing role should be treated as stationary. Current reference data says stabilizing legs must be deployed while stationary before firing missiles and torpedoes, and RSI’s Q&A discusses the vehicle as needing to be parked to fire torpedoes.

Can the driver fire any weapons?

Yes. RSI’s Q&A says the missile-turret operator has control over that turret only, while the driver can drive around and fire the Gatling turret if they choose.

Do Ballista missiles need target lock?

Yes. RSI’s Q&A says all missiles currently require a target lock and that there were no plans at that time for missile free-fire.

Is the Ballista Snowblind a tank?

No. It is an anti-air missile vehicle. It has armor and close-defense weapons, but it should not be sold as a main battle tank.

Is the Ballista Snowblind good against ground targets?

RSI’s Ballista material describes its custom artillery system as able to threaten air and ground targets, but its clearest identity is still anti-air defense.

Is the Ballista Snowblind better than the standard Ballista?

Functionally, it should be treated as the same broad anti-air vehicle role. The Snowblind version is better if you want the limited Snowblind edition identity.

Should I choose the Ballista Snowblind or standard Ballista?

Choose the standard Ballista if you mainly want Anvil’s anti-air vehicle role and do not care about limited-edition presentation. Choose the Ballista Snowblind if you want the same broad Ballista gameplay with the Snowblind visual identity, limited Warbond SKU history, and stronger collector appeal. The standard Ballista is the better practical choice, while the Ballista Snowblind is the better collector-focused choice.

Is the Ballista Snowblind skin sold separately?

RSI’s Ballista Q&A says the skins were unique to Warbond SKUs and that those limited-time offerings would not be pledgeable separately.

Is the Ballista Snowblind better than the Dunestalker?

They serve the same broad Ballista anti-air role. Snowblind is better if you want the Snowblind visual identity, while Dunestalker is better if you prefer the desert tactical look and its Concierge-linked context.

Is the Ballista Snowblind better than the Centurion?

The Ballista Snowblind is better for heavier missile-based air denial. The Centurion is better for short-range anti-air gun coverage. Current reference material describes the Centurion as a short-range anti-air vehicle with a quad energy-cannon turret.

Is the Ballista Snowblind better than the Spartan?

They do different jobs. The Spartan carries troops, while the Ballista Snowblind protects an area from aircraft. Choose Spartan for transport and Ballista for anti-air defense.

Is the Ballista Snowblind better than the Nova?

The Ballista Snowblind is better for anti-air defense. The Nova is better for direct ground armor combat.

Is the Ballista Snowblind good for solo players?

It is usable solo, but not ideal. A solo player may need to drive, park, deploy stabilizers, swap to the gunner seat, lock targets, and fire. It is much better with two players and support.

Can the Ballista Snowblind be fired from a ship or carrier?

RSI’s Q&A says the Ballista can still fire aboard a moving Starlifter or Idris, and that firing from a Kraken landing pad should be possible, but it also warns that hitting friendly ships or parts of the carrier could be a real risk.

Does the Ballista Snowblind have cargo?

No. It should not be purchased for cargo or logistics. It is a dedicated anti-air weapon platform.

How big is the Ballista Snowblind?

Current reference data lists the Ballista Snowblind at 17m length, 7m width, and 5.5m height.

Does the Ballista Snowblind have good long-term value?

Yes, for the right buyer. The Ballista Snowblind has collector-focused long-term value for Anvil collectors, ground-defense players, and organizations that want surface-based anti-air support. Its main limitation is clear: it is very specialized, so it is most valuable when your gameplay actually includes ground defense, outposts, convoys, or organized battlefield deployment.
