Was bedeutet unser 6-monatiger After-Sale-Schutz?

Drake Corsair Standalone Ship Gameplay Guide

The Drake Corsair is a rugged expedition ship built for Star Citizen players who want heavy firepower, long-range travel, vehicle utility, and a rough multi-role exploration experience. Designed by Drake Interplanetary, the Corsair is not a polished luxury pathfinder like the Origin 400i, and it is not a pure cargo ship like the Starlancer MAX or C2 Hercules. It is a tough, aggressive exploration ship made for players who want to go far, carry useful gear, and bring real firepower with them.

Unlike many exploration ships that focus mainly on scanning, comfort, or long-range support, the Corsair leans heavily into Drake’s practical and dangerous design style. It offers 72 SCU cargo, room for a ground exploration vehicle, a heavy weapon package, and a crew-focused interior that feels more like a working ship than a luxury yacht. Official RSI material lists the Corsair with 4× Size 5 nose hardpoints, 2× Size 4 wing hardpoints, 4× Size 4 dual missile racks, 2 manual turrets, 1 remote turret, 72 SCU cargo, and 4 crew.

Build Your Drake Exploration Fleet with the Corsair

The Corsair is one of the more useful choices for players who want an exploration ship with real combat pressure. If you are looking to acquire this Drake expedition ship, you can explore our available options in the Star Citizen Ships and Vehicles Collection.

What Makes the Corsair Valuable?

The Corsair is valuable because it gives players a rare combination: exploration utility with heavy firepower. Many exploration ships are comfortable or practical, but they do not feel threatening. The Corsair feels different. It is the ship for players who want to explore dangerous areas without feeling like they brought a weak civilian vessel.

Its main appeal is the Drake personality. The ship is rough, asymmetric, practical, and aggressive. It does not feel clean or polished like an Origin ship. It feels like something built by people who expect trouble and would rather bring more guns than more luxury panels.

The Corsair also works well as a flexible daily large ship. It can run missions, carry supplies, bring a vehicle, support a small crew, and fight better than many ships in the exploration category.

Expedition Gameplay Role

The Corsair’s main role is expedition and dangerous exploration. Official Corsair material uses the “adventure” identity strongly, while RSI’s cargo guide describes it as primarily designed as an exploration ship but adaptable enough to be a solid cargo-run contender.

In practical gameplay, the Corsair fits several roles:

Gameplay Use Why the Corsair Fits
Exploration travel Built around long-range adventure and independent operation.
Combat-heavy missions Heavy weapon layout gives it more pressure than many exploration ships.
Bounty support Can punish slower or larger targets with heavy forward firepower.
Bunker support Cargo bay and vehicle utility make it useful for FPS mission support.
Small cargo runs 72 SCU gives enough space for supplies, loot, and light trade.
Small-crew gameplay Turrets and interior layout give friends meaningful roles.

The Corsair should not be treated as a pure explorer like the Carrack or a luxury pathfinder like the 400i. It is better described as a dangerous expedition ship.

Firepower and Combat Feel

The Corsair’s clearest selling point is its weapon identity. Official technical specs list 4× Size 5 nose hardpoints and 2× Size 4 wing hardpoints, plus missile racks and turret support.

The Corsair has heavy firepower for an exploration ship, but it should not be sold as a dedicated gunship.

This keeps the positioning accurate. The Corsair is dangerous, but ships like the Redeemer, Paladin, Hammerhead, Perseus, or Polaris are still more focused combat platforms.

Cargo and Vehicle Utility

The Corsair has 72 SCU of cargo, which makes it more practical than many ships in its broad class. Official Galactapedia material states that each Corsair comes with a cargo bay that can accommodate a ground exploration vehicle or up to 72 SCU of cargo.

The Corsair can support cargo or vehicle-based exploration, but its cargo bay should be understood as mission utility rather than dedicated freight space.

The important customer expectation is the trade-off: RSI’s Corsair Q&A says the design follows a similar “cargo space versus vehicle storage” trade-off to the Constellation, so players should not expect to fully use secured cargo capacity while also carrying a rover.

Interior and Drake Ownership Experience

The Corsair’s interior is one of its clearer personality points. It feels practical, industrial, and lived-in. It does not try to be luxury. It feels like a ship built for people who expect to work, fight, repair, travel, and improvise.

This matters for players who enjoy immersion. The Corsair feels like a real expedition ship: crew quarters, cargo area, engineering space, weapon racks, turrets, and an aggressive bridge layout all support the idea that this is a ship meant to operate away from safe ports.

Players who want a clean premium interior may prefer the 400i or 600i. Players who want something that feels rougher, cheaper, and more dangerous will usually prefer the Corsair.

Solo and Small-Crew Gameplay

The Corsair can be flown solo, but it becomes better with crew. A solo pilot can travel, fight, land, and run missions, but crew members improve turret coverage, defense, repairs, scanning, and overall survival.

A practical Corsair session usually depends on choosing the right kind of trouble. The pilot has heavy forward firepower, but the ship still needs distance control, careful landing choices, and crew awareness. If the cargo bay is being used for a rover, the team should plan the ground route before landing instead of treating the bay like full freight space. In combat, turret operators help cover angles the pilot cannot hold, while the pilot decides whether to commit, turn away, or escape. In real use, the Corsair feels best when it is treated as a dangerous expedition ship: bring guns, bring gear, land with a plan, and leave before the ship’s size and exposure become a problem.

A practical Corsair crew may include:

Crew Role Purpose
Pilot Handles flight, positioning, landing, and main engagement decisions.
Co-Pilot / Systems Support Helps with navigation, shields, scanning, and mission awareness.
Turret Operators Improve defensive coverage and help against fighters or side threats.
Ground / Vehicle Player Supports rover deployment, bunker missions, and away-team gameplay.

This makes the Corsair a useful ship for solo players who sometimes play with friends. It does not require a large crew like the Carrack, Polaris, or Hammerhead, but it rewards bringing extra players.

Landing and Hangar Practicality

The Corsair’s folding-wing layout helps it fit into medium / size-four hangars. RSI’s official Q&A confirms that with its wings folded upward in landing mode, the Corsair was designed to fit front-entry hangar doors such as those at rest stops, in the same hangar class as ships like the Retaliator and Constellation.

The Corsair looks dramatic in space, but its folding wings help make landing and hangar use more practical than its silhouette first suggests.

Explore Corsair Upgrade Paths

If you prefer to build toward the Drake Corsair from an existing ship, you can view our Star Citizen Corsair CCU Upgrades and plan a more flexible exploration or combat-adventure fleet upgrade path over time.

Corsair vs Other Star Citizen Ships

Ship Fleet Option Primary Core Role Compared with Drake Corsair
Origin 400i Luxury Pathfinder The 400i is cleaner, faster-feeling, and more premium. The Corsair is rougher, more heavily armed, and more aggressive.
Origin 600i Explorer Luxury Expedition Ship The 600i is larger and more refined. The Corsair is cheaper-feeling, rougher, and more combat-forward.
Constellation Aquila Exploration / Utility The Aquila is more traditional and RSI-styled. The Corsair has stronger Drake personality and heavier gun-focused appeal.
Constellation Taurus Cargo / Multi-Role The Taurus is better for cargo and practical profit. The Corsair is better for exploration-style combat utility.
Mercury Star Runner Data Runner / Multi-Role The MSR is better for data and speed-based utility. The Corsair is better for firepower and rough expedition gameplay.
C1 Spirit Medium Cargo / Daily Utility The C1 is easier and cleaner for everyday cargo. The Corsair is larger, more dangerous, and more crew-friendly.
Carrack Deep Exploration / Mobile Base The Carrack is a true expedition platform with broader support features. The Corsair is smaller, rougher, and much easier to use casually.

Corsair vs Origin 400i

The Origin 400i is better for players who want luxury, comfort, speed-feel, and refined travel. The Drake Corsair is better for players who want heavier firepower, rough utility, and a more aggressive exploration ship. Choose the 400i if ship feel and premium interior matter more. Choose the Corsair if you want a rugged expedition ship with real combat pressure.

Corsair vs Constellation Aquila

The Constellation Aquila is better for players who want a more traditional RSI exploration ship with a familiar utility layout. The Corsair is better for players who want Drake personality, heavier forward firepower, and a rougher adventure-focused experience. Choose the Aquila for classic exploration utility. Choose the Corsair for a more aggressive expedition style.

Corsair vs Constellation Taurus

The Constellation Taurus is better for cargo profit and practical multi-role value. The Corsair is better for exploration-style combat, vehicle-supported missions, and dangerous travel. Choose the Taurus if your priority is hauling and everyday utility. Choose the Corsair if your priority is firepower, Drake style, and expedition gameplay.

Corsair Strengths and Limitations

Strategic Strengths Operational Limitations
Heavy weapon layout gives the Corsair useful firepower for an exploration ship. Not as agile or clean as smaller daily drivers.
72 SCU cargo gives useful mission and light-hauling utility. Not a dedicated cargo-profit ship.
Cargo bay can support a ground exploration vehicle or cargo. Vehicle storage and secured cargo space involve trade-offs.
Clear Drake identity makes it feel rugged and memorable. Interior is functional, not luxury.
Good small-crew gameplay with turret and support roles. Solo pilots will not use all turret coverage.
More combat-confident than many exploration ships. Still not a dedicated gunship or military capital platform.
Flight Ready and practical for current gameplay. Weapon balance and exact control behavior may change across patches.

Who Should Buy the Corsair?

The Corsair is best for players who want a rugged exploration ship with heavy firepower and useful cargo support. It is especially suitable for Drake fans, combat-focused explorers, small crews, bounty players, bunker teams, and players who want a ship that feels dangerous without moving into a dedicated gunship.

It is also a good choice for players who want an alternative to polished exploration ships. The 400i feels refined. The 600i feels luxurious. The Carrack feels professional and expedition-grade. The Corsair feels rough, direct, and ready to get into trouble.

Players who want cargo profit should look at the Taurus, Starlancer MAX, C2 Hercules, or Hull C. Players who want luxury should choose the 400i or 600i. Players who want a true exploration base should choose the Carrack. But for players who want a Drake expedition ship with teeth, the Corsair remains one of the more appealing ships in Star Citizen.

Corsair FAQ

Is the Drake Corsair worth buying in Star Citizen?

The Corsair is worth buying if you want an exploration ship with heavy firepower, 72 SCU cargo, vehicle utility, and a rugged Drake interior. It is especially appealing for players who want a ship that can travel, fight, carry supplies, and support small-crew missions without feeling too polished or passive.

Is the Corsair Flight Ready?

Yes. CIG’s 2022 chairman letter states that the 2952 IAE debuted two new flyable ships: the Drake Cutter and the Corsair. For product pages, the safe wording is Flight Ready / current gameplay reference, while still noting that balance and specifications may change.

What is the main role of the Corsair?

The Corsair’s main role is expedition and exploration gameplay with heavy combat capability. RSI’s cargo guide describes it as primarily designed as an exploration ship, while also noting that its adaptability makes it useful for cargo runs.

How much cargo does the Corsair have?

The Corsair has 72 SCU of cargo capacity according to official RSI technical material. This makes it useful for supplies, mission cargo, loot, and light trading, but it is not a dedicated hauler.

What weapons does the Corsair have?

Can the Corsair carry a rover?

Yes, the Corsair’s cargo bay can accommodate a ground exploration vehicle or up to 72 SCU of cargo. However, RSI’s Q&A makes clear that cargo space and vehicle storage involve trade-offs, so it should not be marketed as carrying a rover and full secured cargo at the same time.

Is the Corsair good for cargo?

Should I choose the Corsair or 400i?

Does the Corsair have good long-term value?

Yes, the Corsair has useful long-term value for players who enjoy exploration, small-crew gameplay, and combat-ready travel. Its role is easy to understand: a rugged Drake expedition ship with heavy weapons, useful cargo, and vehicle support. It is not the most efficient ship in every category, but it has one of the clearest personalities in Star Citizen.
