Why are the names of the Star Citizen ships I received different?

Anvil Crucible Standalone Ship Gameplay Guide

The Anvil Crucible is a dedicated heavy repair ship built for Star Citizen players who want mobile maintenance, battlefield recovery, fleet support, and a direct non-combat industrial career. Designed by Anvil Aerospace, the Crucible is not a cargo hauler, gunship, salvage ship, or daily driver. It is a professional repair platform made to restore damaged ships, support long-range operations, and keep a fleet moving when returning to a station is not practical.

Unlike the Aegis Vulcan, which is positioned as a smaller repair, refuel, and rearm support ship, the Crucible is a larger mobile workshop. Official RSI material calls it Anvil’s first dedicated repair ship and describes it as a “flying toolbox” with a rotating control bridge, detachable pressurized workspace, repair arms, a drone operation center, and the equipment needed to overhaul damaged craft back into fighting shape.

The Crucible is a long-term repair and fleet-support pledge for players who want future maintenance gameplay, not a current everyday ship.

Build Your Anvil Repair Fleet with the Crucible

The Crucible is one of the more important long-term support ships for players who want to build a dedicated service fleet. If you are looking to acquire this Anvil repair ship, you can explore our available options in the Star Citizen Ships and Vehicles Collection.

What Makes the Crucible Valuable?

The Crucible is valuable because it gives players access to a dedicated repair profession ship rather than a simple utility add-on. It is not just a ship with repair tools. It is designed as a mobile garage: a place where damaged ships can be brought, worked on, stabilized, and returned to service.

Its main appeal is fleet independence. In long-range or dangerous operations, a fleet that can repair itself has more operational freedom than one that must constantly return to stations. A Crucible can support combat groups, mining teams, exploration fleets, salvage crews, cargo convoys, and organization events.

For players who enjoy non-combat gameplay, the Crucible is useful because it gives the owner a job other players may actually need: fixing ships, supporting operations, and turning damaged vehicles back into usable assets.

Heavy Repair Gameplay Role

The Crucible’s main role is heavy ship repair and maintenance support. Official material describes it as a mobile garage equipped with remote manipulator arms, clamshell doors for zero-g and pressurized repair work, EVA equipment, and tools for repairing damaged craft.

In long-term gameplay planning, the Crucible fits several roles:

Gameplay Use Why the Crucible Fits
Fleet repair support Helps damaged ships return to service without immediately going back to a station.
Organization logistics Gives large groups a dedicated maintenance platform.
Combat recovery Can help restore damaged fighters or support ships after battles.
Exploration support Useful for long-range expeditions where station repair may be far away.
Industrial fleet support Mining, salvage, cargo, and construction fleets may all need repairs.
Service career gameplay Lets players build a business around repair and maintenance support.

The Crucible should not be described as a salvage ship or cargo ship. Its main identity is repair-first fleet support.

Repair Bay and Scarab Workshop

The Crucible’s most important feature is its workshop system. RSI describes the standard model as including the Scarab, a dedicated dry workshop designed to support pressurized repair of single-seat fighters such as the Hornet or Gladiator. The concept also includes internal repair arms and external clamshell doors for larger repair access.

The Crucible is built to repair small ships inside its workshop and support larger ships externally with repair arms, drones, and EVA work.

This makes the ship easier to understand. It is not a carrier, not a hauler, and not a salvage platform. It is a repair ship built around a working bay.

Small-Ship and Large-Ship Repair

The Crucible’s repair role changes depending on ship size. RSI’s Q&A says smaller ships that fit inside the garage can be repaired while secured inside the Crucible, and the ship was designed with military single-seaters such as the Hornet and Gladiator in mind. Larger ships would be repaired externally using repair arms and drones, with external repairs planned around stationary work.

The Crucible is most straightforward when repairing fighters and smaller craft directly, while larger ships require external repair work and more careful setup.

Repair Drones, EVA Tools, and Crew Work

The Crucible is not just a one-button repair ship. Its concept is built around crew activity. Official material describes the cab section as having storage, living quarters, and dedicated EVA lockers for repair and salvage operations, while the workshop provides repair access and remote manipulation tools.

A practical Crucible crew may include:

Crew Role Purpose
Captain / Pilot Handles flight, positioning, docking, and repair-site setup.
Repair Operator Controls repair arms, drones, and workshop systems.
EVA Technician Performs external inspection and hands-on repair tasks.
Engineer Manages power, components, systems, and onboard repair resources.
Cargo / Parts Manager Tracks repair materials, spare parts, tools, and supplies.
Security Escort Protects the Crucible while it is repairing valuable ships.

A practical Crucible repair operation should start with safety and setup, not with the repair tools themselves. The crew needs to choose a repair location, position the Crucible close enough to the damaged ship, and decide whether the area is safe enough to begin work. Smaller ships may be brought into the workshop-style bay if they fit, while larger ships would need external repair work with arms, drones, EVA technicians, and support crew. A repair operator should prioritize damaged systems, while a parts manager tracks materials, replacement components, and repair time. In real use, the Crucible should feel like a mobile service operation: stabilize the area, inspect the damage, prepare the parts, repair what matters first, and leave before the repair site becomes a target.

This is why the Crucible is appealing for organizations. It creates meaningful non-combat jobs instead of making every player sit in a turret.

Self-Repair Expectations

The Crucible can support some self-repair, but product pages should word this carefully. RSI’s Q&A says internal components are accessible for repair and that most minor damage should be handled through EVA, onboard tools, and drones. However, major hull repair may require a dry dock or another Crucible because the repair arms do not reach the entire ship.

The Crucible can handle minor self-repair and component work, but it should not be treated as fully self-sufficient after major hull damage.

Repair vs Salvage

The Crucible should not be marketed as a Reclaimer replacement. RSI’s Q&A says the ship may have limited salvage capability because repair and salvage share some actions and mechanics, but it does not fabricate new components. Salvage materials may support repairs, but the Crucible repairs existing components rather than assembling new ones.

Ship Main Role Difference
Crucible Repair and maintenance Fixes damaged ships and components.
Reclaimer Salvage and recovery Breaks down wrecks and extracts salvage value.
Vulture Solo salvage Smaller, easier salvage ship for one player.
Vulcan Repair / refuel / rearm support Smaller service ship, less of a full mobile workshop.

For customers, this matters a lot. The Crucible is for keeping ships alive. The Reclaimer is for turning wrecks into profit.

Solo and Multi-Crew Gameplay

The Crucible has some solo design discussion, but it should not be sold as a solo-efficient ship. RSI’s Q&A says the ship was designed so a single captain could operate flight and repair tasks through the rotating bridge concept, but also states that human crews will be more efficient than AI or solo operation.

The Crucible may be movable by one player, but its real value comes from crewed repair operations.

This makes it easier for buyers to understand the ship’s real use case. A solo owner may still value it as a long-term career pledge, but the ship is clearly stronger when used with friends or an organization.

Cargo and Repair Supply Utility

The Crucible’s technical overview lists 240 SCU cargo capacity, which is useful for carrying spare parts, repair materials, tools, components, and operational supplies.

The Crucible has cargo space to support repair work, but its value is service and maintenance, not freight profit.

Players who want hauling should choose the Taurus, Starlancer MAX, C2 Hercules, Hull C, or Hull D. Players who want repair should look at the Crucible.

Defense and Risk Management

The Crucible is a support ship, not a frontline combat ship. It may have turrets and defensive systems, but its best protection is planning, escorts, and operating behind the main combat line.

The Crucible should be protected like a fleet asset, because losing the repair ship can leave the entire operation stranded.

Explore Crucible Upgrade Paths

If you prefer to build toward the Crucible from an existing ship, you can view our Star Citizen Crucible CCU Upgrades and plan a more flexible repair or fleet-support upgrade path over time.

Crucible vs Other Star Citizen Support Ships

Ship Fleet Option Primary Core Role Compared with Crucible
Aegis Vulcan Repair / Refuel / Rearm Support The Vulcan is smaller and more flexible for light service work. The Crucible is a larger dedicated repair workshop.
Aegis Reclaimer Heavy Salvage The Reclaimer breaks down wrecks for salvage. The Crucible repairs damaged ships.
Drake Vulture Solo Salvage The Vulture is better for solo salvage profit. The Crucible is a multi-crew repair platform.
Anvil Carrack Exploration / Expedition Support The Carrack supports exploration crews. The Crucible supports damaged ships and fleet maintenance.
Anvil Liberator Light Carrier / Vehicle Transport The Liberator transports ships and vehicles. The Crucible repairs them.
Drake Kraken Mobile Carrier / Fleet Base The Kraken can support landed ships as a mobile base. The Crucible is specialized around repair work.
RSI Apollo Medivac Medical Rescue The Apollo repairs players. The Crucible repairs ships.
MISC Endeavor Science / Hospital / Modular Platform The Endeavor is broader and more modular. The Crucible is more direct as a repair ship.

Crucible vs Aegis Vulcan

The Aegis Vulcan is better for players who want a smaller and more flexible field-service ship that can repair, refuel, and rearm. The Crucible is better for players who want a larger dedicated repair workshop with a stronger fleet-maintenance identity. Choose the Vulcan for lighter service support. Choose the Crucible for long-term heavy repair and mobile workshop gameplay.

Crucible vs Reclaimer

The Reclaimer is better for players who want salvage profit, wreck processing, and industrial recovery gameplay. The Crucible is better for players who want to repair damaged ships and keep a fleet operating. Choose the Reclaimer if you want to break wrecks down for value. Choose the Crucible if you want to bring damaged ships back into service.

Crucible vs Liberator

The Liberator is better for players who want to transport ships, vehicles, and small craft between locations. The Crucible is better for players who want to repair ships after they are damaged. Choose the Liberator for transport and light carrier logistics. Choose the Crucible for maintenance, repair, and fleet recovery support.

Crucible Strengths and Limitations

Strategic Strengths Operational Limitations
Dedicated heavy repair role gives it a clear long-term career identity. Not Flight Ready; should be treated as a future-facing pledge.
Scarab workshop supports enclosed small-ship repair. Final repair mechanics and bay limits may change.
Repair arms, drones, EVA tools, and workshop systems create crew gameplay. Not efficient as a pure solo ship.
Useful fleet-support value for organizations and long-range operations. Not a combat ship, hauler, or salvage-profit ship.
Can support minor self-repair and component access. Major hull damage may require drydock or another repair ship.
Useful cargo capacity for repair supplies and spare parts. Cargo capacity should not be sold as freight value.
Clear non-combat support fantasy. Full value depends on future repair and maintenance systems.

Who Should Buy the Crucible?

The Crucible is best for players who want a long-term repair career ship and are comfortable waiting for future repair gameplay. It is especially suitable for organizations, fleet support players, industrial groups, exploration fleets, combat support crews, and players who enjoy non-combat professions.

It is also a good choice for players who want to provide a service others will need. In future fleet gameplay, damaged ships, broken components, and long-range operations should make repair ships valuable. The Crucible is positioned as one of the more direct ships for that role.

Players who want current cargo profit should choose the Taurus, Starlancer MAX, C2 Hercules, or Hull C. Players who want salvage should choose the Vulture or Reclaimer. Players who want small support service gameplay may prefer the Vulcan. But for players who want a full mobile repair workshop, the Anvil Crucible is one of the more important long-term support ships in Star Citizen.

Crucible FAQ

Is the Crucible worth buying in Star Citizen?

The Crucible is worth buying if you want a long-term repair ship for fleet support, damaged-ship recovery, and organization logistics. It is not ideal for players who need a current Flight Ready daily ship, but it has useful future value for repair-focused gameplay.

Is the Crucible Flight Ready?

No. The Crucible should be treated as concept / in development, not Flight Ready. Official concept-sale material stated that the ship was not ready for Hangar display or Arena Commander at that time, and its full value depends on future repair gameplay.

What is the main role of the Crucible?

The Crucible’s main role is heavy repair. RSI describes it as Anvil’s first dedicated repair ship, a mobile garage with repair arms, a drone operation center, and equipment for bringing damaged craft back into fighting shape.

How many crew does the Crucible need?

The technical overview lists the Crucible with 3 minimum crew and 8 maximum crew. It may be possible to operate some functions alone, but the ship is much better with a repair crew.

Can the Crucible be used solo?

The Crucible was concepted so a single captain could operate flight and repair tasks through its rotating bridge, but RSI’s Q&A also makes clear that human crews will be more efficient. For product pages, the safe answer is: possible in basic form, but not ideal.

Can the Crucible repair itself?

Partly. RSI’s Q&A says the Crucible can handle minor self-repair through accessible internal components, EVA, onboard tools, and drones. However, major hull repair may need dry dock service or another Crucible.

What ships can fit inside the Crucible?

RSI’s Q&A says most single-seat ships were fitting inside the garage during concept work, with specific mention that the Hornet and Gladiator were design targets. It also said the Cutlass could fit with the top open during development discussion. Final clearances may change.

Can the Crucible repair larger ships?

Yes, but larger ships are expected to be repaired externally using repair arms, drones, and EVA work rather than fully inside the garage. RSI describes the Crucible as a dry dock for small ships and scaffolding for larger ships.

Can the Crucible repair ships while moving?

RSI’s Q&A says external repairs were planned for stationary ships, while smaller ships inside the garage could be repaired during transit. This should be treated as concept-stage repair design and may change.

Does the Crucible have cargo?

Yes. The technical overview lists 240 SCU cargo capacity. For product pages, this should be positioned as repair supply storage, not freight-hauling value.

Is the Crucible a salvage ship?

No. The Crucible is a repair ship. RSI’s Q&A says it may have limited salvage-related capability because repair and salvage share mechanics, but it does not fabricate new components and should not be sold as a Reclaimer replacement.

Is the Crucible better than the Vulcan?

The Crucible is better for players who want a larger dedicated repair workshop. The Vulcan is better for smaller, more flexible service gameplay across repair, refuel, and rearm support. Choose the Crucible for heavy repair. Choose the Vulcan for lighter field support.

Should I choose the Crucible or Vulcan?

Choose the Aegis Vulcan if you want a smaller, more flexible service ship for repair, refuel, and rearm support. Choose the Anvil Crucible if you want a larger dedicated repair platform with a workshop-style bay, repair arms, drones, EVA support, and stronger fleet-maintenance identity. The Vulcan is the better light service ship, while the Crucible is the better long-term heavy repair ship.

Is the Crucible better than the Reclaimer?

They serve different roles. The Reclaimer is for salvage and wreck recovery. The Crucible is for repairing damaged ships. Choose Reclaimer to break ships down. Choose Crucible to bring ships back.

Does the Crucible have good long-term value?

Yes, the Crucible has useful long-term value for players who want repair gameplay, fleet maintenance, and organization support. Its role is clear and useful, but its biggest limitation is timing: it is not Flight Ready, and its full value depends on future repair systems.
