Star Citizen Perseus Guide: Weapons, Crew, Price & Is It Worth It?
The RSI Perseus is a flight-ready heavy gunship built around four crew-operated Size 8 ballistic cannons, Size 5 torpedoes, and a 96 SCU cargo bay. It is aimed at crews that want sustained firepower against large and sub-capital targets without moving all the way up to a ship such as the Polaris.
Its main batteries are also its biggest ownership constraint. The pilot cannot directly operate the four S8 cannons, so the Perseus becomes much more useful once two dedicated turret gunners are aboard. For a regular three-to-six-player combat group, that creates a focused multicrew ship where additional crew directly improve combat effectiveness. For a mostly solo player, much of the ship's defining firepower remains unavailable.
The Perseus became flyable with Alpha 4.4.0 in November 2025, and the current Live environment is Alpha 4.10.0.

Current Alpha 4.10 vehicle data supports the six crew stations, dimensions, 96 SCU capacity, speeds, current weapon loadout, and 20 missiles loaded in the two S5 racks. The same current database lists an $800 MSRP separately under purchase data.
The Released Perseus Is Very Different From the Original Concept
Older Perseus guides can now be misleading.
When CIG originally discussed the ship in December 2020, the Perseus was still a concept vessel with planned Size 7 main weapons. The same historical Q&A explicitly stated that it was not yet in the production pipeline.
The released design changed substantially.
CIG's newer Perseus Q&A confirms that the two main batteries were upgraded from S7 to S8, each main turret gained two S3 hardpoints, six point-defense turrets were added, and cargo capacity increased from 50 to 96 SCU. CIG also reclassified the released ship as a Heavy Gunship.
The three old concept numbers most likely to cause confusion are therefore:

If a Perseus guide still describes the current ship primarily from its 2020 specification, it is describing a design that no longer matches the released vessel.
Combat Capability: Four S8 Cannons Are the Main Event
The Perseus is built to put sustained ballistic fire into targets large enough to justify its ammunition.
Current Alpha 4.10 data shows two manned main turrets, each mounting two S8 RSI Medusa ballistic cannons and two S3 Mantis Gatling guns. The complete released weapon package also includes additional S3 remote weapons and six PDTs.

The two main S8 turrets require players in their seats by default. That changes how the ship fights compared with a large vessel whose main weapons are tied directly to the pilot.
The Perseus pilot is responsible for positioning the hull so both gunners have useful firing opportunities. The gunners can then track their targets independently while the pilot adjusts range and orientation.
CIG also highlights two advantages the S8 guns have over torpedoes: they do not have the same minimum-range requirement, and their projectiles cannot simply be intercepted by point-defense systems in the way incoming ordnance can.
That makes the Perseus less dependent on a single missile engagement. Once a target is inside a useful firing envelope, the ship can keep applying heavy gun pressure as long as the crew maintains firing solutions and ammunition.
The Perseus Is Not a Hammerhead Replacement
The Hammerhead and Perseus solve different fleet problems.
CIG describes the Hammerhead as primarily an anti-fighter ship, while the Perseus is designed to attack larger, slower targets.
The released Perseus is better defended against fighters than its original concept suggested. Eight S3 guns and six PDTs give it several defensive layers, so a light attacker cannot assume the heavy gunship is helpless.
Those systems do not turn it into a dedicated fighter screen.
If a fleet primarily needs rapid turret coverage against groups of small ships, the Hammerhead has the clearer role. The Perseus makes more sense when the fleet expects ships large enough for four S8 cannons to earn their ammunition.
How the 40 S5 Torpedo Capacity Actually Works
The Perseus can carry 40 Size 5 torpedoes at maximum capacity, but 40 are not simultaneously loaded into its launch system.
Current Alpha 4.10 vehicle data shows two S5 missile racks carrying 10 missiles each, for 20 loaded weapons.
CIG's updated Q&A separately confirms two additional storage rooms capable of carrying 20 more S5 torpedoes. Those reserve torpedoes must be manually transferred to the adjacent launchers. CIG therefore describes the total capacity as 40.
In practical terms:
20 are loaded in the launch system. Another 20 can be carried as reserve ammunition.
That distinction matters during a long operation. A crew has significantly more total ordnance than the loaded rack count suggests, but accessing the reserve supply involves crew work rather than giving the pilot forty uninterrupted launches.
The pilot can fire torpedoes, and the ship also includes a dedicated forward torpedo console.
Torpedoes therefore add another way to threaten a large target without replacing the Perseus's primary job. The ship still has a useful combat role after its immediately available torpedoes have been expended.
How Much Crew Does the Perseus Need?
Three players are the practical minimum for using both main S8 batteries: one pilot and two turret gunners.
This is an operational recommendation rather than CIG's official minimum crew number. Current Alpha 4.10 data lists six crew stations.
With three players, the ship can field its pilot and both heavy turrets. That is the first crew size where the Perseus can consistently use the weapons that define it.
A fourth, fifth, or sixth player gives the crew more freedom to operate secondary weapons and respond to engineering or damage-control problems without immediately pulling someone away from a main battery.
A simple practical breakdown is:

1 player: Fine for moving the ship, poor for serious combat.

2 players: One S8 turret can operate, leaving the other heavy battery unused.

The Perseus is therefore much easier to justify for a regular small group than for an owner who only occasionally finds someone to join them.
Can You Solo the Perseus?
You can fly it solo, but you cannot efficiently use it as a heavy gunship.
The pilot is not completely unarmed. CIG states that the pilot can launch torpedoes and has slaved control of the upper remote turret. The copilot can take control of that upper remote turret, while another gunner station handles the lower remote turret.
The problem is the two main batteries. Both large turrets are manned and require a player seated in them by default.
A solo owner can move cargo, relocate the vessel, fire torpedoes, and use limited secondary firepower, but the four S8 cannons remain unavailable from the pilot seat.
That makes the Perseus a poor pledge choice for someone whose normal gameplay is solo combat. Future NPC crew or automation systems should not be used to justify what the ship can do under current mechanics.
Engineering and Crew Workload
Engineering is already relevant to Perseus ownership, but the version context needs to be stated correctly.
CIG's Engineering Gameplay Guide lists the RSI Perseus under Stage 3 – Fully Enabled in its Alpha 4.8 vehicle implementation table. Stage 3 is defined as having accessible physicalized components, item repair through supported interfaces or physical access, and accessible relays.
That Alpha 4.8 table is the strongest official implementation reference for the Perseus's engineering support. It should not be misrepresented as a separate Alpha 4.10 engineering reclassification.
For owners, the crew consequence is straightforward.
A three-player team can keep the pilot and both main batteries active, but it has almost no spare manpower when something inside the ship needs attention. If one of the two heavy gunners leaves the turret to handle a repair or system problem, half of the S8 battery disappears until that player returns.
Four to six players provide more resilience in longer engagements because internal problems do not automatically dismantle the main combat crew.
96 SCU Cargo Gives the Perseus Useful Flexibility
The released Perseus has a 96 SCU cargo grid, up from the 50 SCU associated with its original concept. Current 4.10 vehicle data confirms that capacity.
CIG's newer Q&A explains that the increase came from changes to the cargo-bay layout.
For a combat ship, 96 SCU is useful without making cargo hauling its primary career.
A crew can carry supplies, recovered equipment, mission cargo, ammunition-related logistics, or other operational material without adding a dedicated freighter to every trip.
The value is flexibility rather than hauling efficiency. A purpose-built cargo ship remains the better choice if moving freight is the main objective.
Perseus in PvE
The Perseus is at its best in PvE encounters containing targets large enough for S8 ammunition to make sense.
A three-player crew can keep both main turrets firing while the pilot controls positioning and decides when torpedoes are worth using. Extra crew can cover secondary weapons and engineering instead of leaving those tasks unattended.
This setup is much less efficient when missions mostly generate small, widely dispersed targets. Four heavy ballistic cannons are wasted if the gunners spend most of their time trying to track ships better handled by fighters or an anti-fighter platform.
Against larger PvE ships, the Perseus has a clearer purpose: maintain heavy gun pressure while retaining torpedoes and defensive weapons for situations where they add value.
Its 96 SCU bay also gives a combat group room to bring supplies or recover cargo after a fight, which makes the ship more useful across longer sessions than a pure weapons platform with almost no storage.
Perseus in PvP
The Perseus is more convincing in PvP when it operates as part of a fleet rather than as an isolated large ship.
Its main turrets are well suited to large targets because the gunners can track independently of the pilot's exact nose position. CIG specifically contrasts that with a fixed forward weapon such as the Idris's main cannon.
Its secondary weapons and PDTs provide protection against smaller threats, but organized fighter pressure is still an unfavorable problem for a vessel whose main guns are designed around large targets.
A fleet that can provide fighter cover lets Perseus gunners spend more time attacking ships that justify S8 fire.
That is also where its distinction from the Polaris becomes useful. The Perseus is a more focused heavy gunship. The Polaris adds a hangar, more weapons and missiles, and S10 torpedoes on a substantially larger platform. CIG notes that the Perseus is smaller and more maneuverable but would have a harder time taking on larger capital ships than a Polaris.
Perseus Price and Availability
Current Alpha 4.10 vehicle data lists the Perseus with an $800 MSRP.
That is a listed pledge value, not the same thing as confirming that an $800 standalone offer is available in the RSI store at every moment.
Warbond pricing should also be treated separately. Historical Warbond standalone offers, Warbond CCUs, normal upgrades, and an $800 MSRP are different price types and should not be presented interchangeably.
For players interested primarily in gameplay, the Perseus can now be purchased in-game.
Current Alpha 4.10 data lists it at 39,690,000 aUEC from Astro Armada in Area18, with the entry updated on August 27, 2026.
That makes the in-game route particularly useful for a group that has not yet decided whether the crew requirement suits them. Flying an earned Perseus with the people you normally play with gives a much better answer than evaluating the ship only from its pledge value.
Before spending real money, compare the currently available standalone and upgrade options rather than assuming an older sale price or Warbond offer still applies.
Who Should Buy the Perseus?
The Perseus fits players who regularly have at least two other crew members available and want to concentrate on heavy gun combat.
It is especially well suited to groups that:

Who Should Skip It?
The clearest reason to skip the Perseus is solo play.
It is also a poor fit if the main requirement is anti-fighter screening, carrier gameplay, a ship hangar, or capital-class torpedo striking power.
The $800 listed MSRP further raises the cost of getting the crew decision wrong. Buying it because you may eventually have enough people is much harder to justify than buying it for a group that already knows it can keep the major stations occupied.
Perseus Alternatives
Aegis Hammerhead
Choose the Hammerhead when your fleet's main problem is fighter defense.
CIG describes the Hammerhead around numerous smaller, faster turrets and the Perseus around attacking larger, slower ships.
Choose the Perseus when heavy gun damage against large targets is more important than creating an anti-fighter screen.
RSI Polaris
Choose the Polaris when you need a larger fleet platform with a hangar, broader weapon coverage, and S10 torpedoes.

Is the Perseus Worth It?
The Perseus is worth considering for a regular three-to-six-player combat group that specifically wants a heavy gunship.
Four S8 ballistic cannons give the ship a clear reason to exist, while the S5 torpedoes, secondary weapons, PDTs, 96 SCU cargo bay, and engineering support add enough depth to keep additional crew useful.
The same design makes it difficult to recommend to solo players. The pilot can move the ship, fire torpedoes, and operate limited secondary weaponry, but the main batteries still need other players.
For a crew that can reliably staff those seats, the Perseus offers a focused route into large-ship combat without taking on the full scale of a Polaris.
For a mostly solo owner, the 39,690,000 aUEC in-game purchase is the safer way to test whether the ship fits your actual play pattern before treating an $800 pledge value as worthwhile.
