Aopoa Khartu-Al Standalone Ship Gameplay Guide

The Aopoa Khartu-Al is a single-seat Xi’an light fighter and scout built for Star Citizen players who want strong directional movement, an unusual alien cockpit, lateral acceleration, and a flight experience that feels fundamentally different from a conventional Human fighter.

It is not a heavy combat ship, stealth fighter, missile platform, cargo ship, long-range explorer, or beginner-focused dogfighter. The Khartu-Al is best understood as the agility-focused Xi’an scout: a lightly armed fighter that relies on movement, acceleration, positioning, and the pilot’s ability to avoid damage rather than absorbing repeated hits.

The Khartu-Al is an original Xi’an-produced export ship manufactured by Aopoa, not a Human replica or reverse-engineered recreation. It is based on the military Qhire Khartu but uses control systems adapted for Human pilots and carries more limited armament than the original Xi’an military model.

The safest product-page positioning is simple:
The Khartu-Al is the alien fighter you choose for speed, multidirectional movement, scouting, and evasive flying — not for maximum firepower, durability, cargo, or conventional dogfighting simplicity.

Build Your Alien Fighter Fleet with the Khartu-Al

The Khartu-Al is one of the more distinctive alien-ship choices in Star Citizen. Its bubble cockpit, transforming flight profile, articulated Xi’an maneuvering system, exposed engine assemblies, and unusual vertical silhouette give it a very different identity from ships such as the Gladius, Arrow, Sabre, or Hornet.

Official descriptions emphasize that the Khartu-Al does not merely look alien. Its articulated thruster system was designed to make the ship behave differently from conventional Human spacecraft, particularly through strong maneuvering performance across multiple directions.

It is especially suitable for alien-ship collectors, Aopoa and Xi’an technology fans, experienced light-fighter pilots, players who enjoy strafing and directional acceleration, scouts and skirmishers, pilots who prefer avoiding fire rather than trading damage, and players building a mixed alien-fighter fleet.

If you are looking to acquire this Xi’an light fighter, you can explore our available options in the Star Citizen Ships and Vehicles Collection.

What Makes the Aopoa Khartu-Al Valuable?

The Khartu-Al is valuable because it delivers a flight experience that cannot be reduced to a simple weapons comparison.

Most Human fighters use conventional forward engines combined with smaller maneuvering thrusters. The Khartu-Al uses articulated Xi’an engine and maneuvering assemblies designed to provide powerful thrust across multiple axes.

The Khartu-Al is not valuable because it carries more guns than other light fighters. It is valuable because it moves in a way most other fighters cannot reproduce.

Its defining qualities are:

  • Xi’an articulated maneuvering technology
  • Strong directional acceleration
  • Responsive strafing behavior
  • Distinctive bubble cockpit visibility
  • Fast repositioning
  • Single-seat simplicity
  • Genuine alien-manufactured construction
  • Clear collector and visual identity

The ship rewards pilots who understand movement, vector changes, distance control, and escape timing. It is much less forgiving when flown as a conventional head-on fighter.

Xi’an Scout and Skirmisher Gameplay Role

The Khartu-Al’s original purpose is scouting and light skirmishing.

RSI has repeatedly distinguished it from direct-combat fighters by explaining that the Khartu-Al is intended to enter and leave an area quickly, relying on agility rather than maximum firepower. The San’tok.yāi Q&A similarly defines the Khartu-Al as a light fighter, scout, and skirmisher rather than a medium direct-combat platform.

In practical gameplay, the Khartu-Al fits several roles:

Gameplay Use Why the Khartu-Al Fits
Forward scouting Strong mobility helps the pilot investigate contacts and locations ahead of a group.
Light skirmishing Can enter, pressure a target, and disengage before a longer damage exchange.
Interception Speed and directional acceleration help close on or follow lighter contacts.
Escort screening Can move away from the main formation to investigate approaching ships.
Hit-and-run combat Two Size 4 guns provide meaningful damage during short attack windows.
Alien fighter collection One of the more distinctive genuine Xi’an export ships available to Human pilots.
Flight practice Rewards pilots who want to learn unusual strafing and vector-control techniques.

The Khartu-Al should not be sold as a complete exploration ship simply because older descriptions use the term “scout/explorer.” It has no cargo grid, bed, living space, vehicle storage, or long-duration expedition facilities.

The Khartu-Al explores by reaching and observing locations quickly, not by supporting long-duration expedition living.

Alien Flight and Articulated Thruster System

The Khartu-Al’s articulated maneuvering rig is the center of its identity.

Rather than relying only on a fixed rear engine for primary thrust, Xi’an fighter design distributes major thrust through articulated assemblies. This allows powerful movement across several axes and supports unusually strong strafing and lateral acceleration.

RSI has explained that Xi’an fighter engineering provides superior strafe movement because the main-engine performance can be directed across multiple axes. The same architecture also requires exposed articulated structures, creating a durability trade-off compared with more compact Human designs.

The Khartu-Al can redirect serious thrust sideways and vertically, but the structures that make this possible are also important damage points.

This creates a distinctive combat rhythm:

  • Approach without flying directly along a predictable line.
  • Use lateral movement to change the firing angle.
  • Deliver a short burst with the two Size 4 weapons.
  • Accelerate away before the opponent stabilizes its aim.
  • Change vector and return from another direction.
  • Avoid allowing the fight to become a stationary damage exchange.

The Khartu-Al’s movement advantage is most useful when the pilot actively changes direction. Flying straight toward a target removes much of the reason to own it.

Bubble Cockpit and Alien Visibility

The Khartu-Al uses a wide bubble-style cockpit that reinforces its scout and observation identity.

RSI highlighted the bubble cockpit as part of the ship’s attempt to create a genuinely alien flight experience. The design gives the pilot a visually open position inside a transforming Xi’an airframe rather than placing them behind the more familiar canopy and dashboard layout of a Human fighter.

The Khartu-Al cockpit is one of the ship’s most noticeable experience features, even when it provides no direct increase to damage.

The cockpit contributes to:

  • Strong alien atmosphere
  • Broad visual awareness
  • Clear view of the ship’s movement
  • Distinctive takeoff and landing experience
  • Strong immersion for Xi’an collectors

However, buyers should not assume that a large canopy automatically provides better radar detection or a mechanical sensor advantage. Cockpit visibility and electronic sensor performance are separate systems.

Weapons and Combat Output

The current Khartu-Al configuration carries two pilot-controlled Size 4 weapon hardpoints, fitted with two CF-447 Rhino laser repeaters in the current reference build.

Weapon Feature Player Meaning
2× Size 4 hardpoints Strong individual gun size for a light scout.
2× CF-447 Rhino repeaters Current factory energy-repeater configuration.
Pilot-controlled weapons No gunner or second crew member required.
Limited weapon count Losing one gun removes a large portion of total output.
No major missile identity Combat depends mainly on guns, movement, and attack timing.
Energy-weapon configuration Avoids ballistic ammunition limits but depends on capacitor and power management.
The Khartu-Al has two meaningful guns, but it does not have enough weapon redundancy to trade damage carelessly.

The two Size 4 weapons can produce useful forward pressure, especially when the pilot creates a favorable firing angle. However, the ship has fewer total weapon positions than many combat-focused alternatives. This means accuracy matters, attack windows matter, losing one weapon matters, and prolonged frontal exchanges are usually inefficient. The ship benefits from separating, repositioning, and attacking again.

Limited Missile Capability

The current Khartu-Al configuration does not offer a meaningful factory missile package. This distinguishes it from light and medium fighters that can use missiles to pressure targets, interrupt movement, or force countermeasure use before closing to gun range.

The Khartu-Al is a gun-and-movement fighter, not a missile fighter.

This has several practical effects:

  • The pilot cannot rely on missile volume to begin every engagement.
  • Most combat output must come from the two main guns.
  • The ship has fewer options against targets that are difficult to hold within gun range.
  • The pilot must create attack opportunities through movement.
  • Ammunition planning is simpler when using the default energy weapons.

Players who want missile-heavy alien combat should compare other specialist ships rather than choosing the Khartu-Al solely for its appearance.

Shields and Survivability

The current Khartu-Al carries two Size 1 shield generators, providing a current shield reference of approximately 6,336 HP. This gives it usable fighter protection, but the ship should not be treated as durable.

Its unusual engines and articulated structures are central to both its movement and vulnerability. RSI has explained that Xi’an maneuvering rigs place major thrusters on external articulated joints, making this type of structure less durable under fire than compact, conventional Human construction.

The Khartu-Al survives by preventing clean hits, not by absorbing them.

The ship’s defensive weaknesses include an unusual visual profile, exposed maneuvering assemblies, limited armor and hull tolerance, and a major performance loss if a critical thruster section is damaged. A pilot who loses an important engine or articulated thruster assembly may also lose much of the movement advantage that defines the ship.

Solo Gameplay Expectations

The Khartu-Al is fully operated by one pilot. Current live data lists a crew requirement of one, and the pilot controls movement, weapons, shields, radar, power, quantum travel, scanning, and countermeasures.

The Khartu-Al gives one pilot complete control of an alien fighter, but it also expects that pilot to manage every system while flying an unusually demanding ship.

There is no co-pilot, no gunner, no engineering station, no dedicated scanner operator, no crew living area, and no multicrew requirement. This makes the Khartu-Al easy to deploy alone. It does not, however, make it easy to master. Its control style is better suited to pilots who are comfortable managing directional thrust, target tracking, power allocation, and high structural vector rates.

Real Player Use: Where the Khartu-Al Feels Good

The Khartu-Al feels best when the pilot has room to move. A real player notices the ship’s value when approaching a target from an angle, sliding away from incoming fire, changing direction without first aligning the nose, or escaping before a heavier ship can complete a damage exchange.

The Khartu-Al feels special when you fight with its whole movement system; it feels weak when you reduce it to two guns flying directly toward the target.

A practical Khartu-Al session can also feel awkward at first. Pilots who are used to Gladius, Arrow, or Hornet-style forward fighting may over-strafe, lose firing alignment, pull too much acceleration, or expose the ship’s wide alien profile while trying to dodge. The ship becomes rewarding only when the pilot learns to combine movement with aim, not when movement replaces aim entirely.

When the Khartu-Al’s Advantage Becomes Less Important

The Khartu-Al should not be presented as automatically superior because it is agile. Its movement advantage becomes less useful when the pilot flies directly at the opponent, the engagement takes place in a confined area, or several enemies cover different escape directions.

When the Khartu-Al cannot move freely, it becomes a fragile fighter with only two main guns.

This is the most important limitation to communicate honestly.

Cargo, Interior, and Daily Utility Expectations

The Khartu-Al has 0 SCU of official cargo capacity and no practical walkable living interior. Current live data includes limited personal stowage, but this is not equivalent to a cargo grid.

The Khartu-Al is a cockpit fighter and scout, not a practical daily utility ship.

It should not be marketed for cargo hauling, commodity trading, vehicle transport, mining, salvage, or delivery-box missions. Players who need a versatile daily ship should compare the Avenger Titan, Cutlass Black, C1 Spirit, Nomad, or another ship with an accessible interior and real cargo capacity.

Cargo, Mobility, and Practical Expectations

The Khartu-Al is highly specialized. It should not be sold as the best light fighter for every player.

If the buyer wants:

  • Xi’an scouting and strong directional movement, choose the Khartu-Al.
  • Heavier Xi’an combat, choose the San’tok.yāi.
  • Conventional light-fighter training, choose the Gladius.
  • A smaller Human dogfighter, choose the Arrow.
  • Vanduul light-fighter identity, choose the Blade.
  • Tevarin hit-and-run combat, choose the Talon.
  • Two-seat alien escort gameplay, choose the Defender.
  • Stealth-oriented combat, choose the Sabre.
  • Cargo or daily utility, choose a ship with a real interior and cargo grid.
The Khartu-Al is valuable because it offers a specialized Xi’an scout experience, not because it replaces every light fighter or alien ship.

The Khartu-Al is better for players who want a single-seat Xi’an scout focused on movement and evasion. Choose the Defender for alien escort utility. Choose the Khartu-Al for solo Xi’an skirmishing.

Who Should Buy the Aopoa Khartu-Al?

The Aopoa Khartu-Al is best for players who want a genuine Xi’an fighter with unusual movement and a clearly defined scout-and-skirmisher role.

It is especially suitable for:

  • Experienced solo fighter pilots
  • Alien-ship collectors
  • Xi’an and Aopoa fans
  • Players who enjoy lateral movement
  • Pilots who prefer evasion over durability
  • Scouts and interceptors
  • Players who enjoy high-skill specialist ships
  • Pilots building an alien combat fleet
  • Buyers who already own a practical daily ship
  • Players who want something very different from a Human fighter

It is also a useful fleet addition when cargo, travel, industry, and heavy combat roles are already covered. The Khartu-Al can then remain a dedicated movement-focused fighter rather than being forced to serve as the player’s only ship.

It may not be the right choice for:

  • First-time Star Citizen players
  • Buyers seeking one ship for every activity
  • Players who prioritize maximum firepower
  • Pilots who prefer durable ships
  • Cargo or trading players
  • Buyers who need a bed or interior
  • Players who want a missile fighter
  • Pilots who dislike fragile specialist ships
  • Players who only fight in direct head-on engagements
  • Buyers expecting a long-range exploration vessel

For buyers who specifically want Xi’an movement, alien immersion, and evasive scout gameplay, the Khartu-Al remains a focused specialist fighter choice in Star Citizen.

Aopoa Khartu-Al FAQ

Is the Aopoa Khartu-Al worth buying in Star Citizen?

Yes, if you want a genuine Xi’an light fighter built around scouting, agility, lateral acceleration, and evasive combat. It is not ideal if you want maximum weapons, high durability, cargo, missiles, or an easy beginner fighter.

Is the Khartu-Al Flight Ready?

Yes. The Khartu-Al is Flight Ready and has been flyable since its release into the live game. Current live-reference data includes its active weapons, shields, components, dimensions, and flight performance.

What is the main role of the Khartu-Al?

The Khartu-Al is a light fighter, scout, and skirmisher. It is intended to enter and leave engagements using speed and agility rather than relying on heavy weapons or armor.

Is the Khartu-Al a real Xi’an ship?

Yes. It is an original Xi’an-produced export craft manufactured by Aopoa. It is not a Human replica or reverse-engineered reproduction. Its controls and equipment were adapted for Human civilian use.

How many crew members does the Khartu-Al need?

The Khartu-Al requires one pilot. There is no co-pilot, gunner, or dedicated scanner position.

How much cargo does the Khartu-Al carry?

The Khartu-Al has 0 SCU of official cargo capacity. Its limited personal stowage should not be confused with a cargo grid.

What weapons does the Khartu-Al have?

Current live-reference data lists two Size 4 weapon mounts equipped with two CF-447 Rhino laser repeaters. Both weapons are controlled by the pilot.

Does the Khartu-Al carry missiles?

The current Khartu-Al configuration does not have a meaningful factory missile package. It should be treated primarily as a gun-and-movement fighter.

How many shields does the Khartu-Al have?

The current configuration uses two Size 1 shield generators, with a current combined shield reference of approximately 6,336 HP.

Why is the Khartu-Al so maneuverable?

It uses articulated Xi’an engine and maneuvering assemblies capable of directing substantial thrust across multiple axes. This provides strong strafing and lateral acceleration compared with conventional fixed-engine layouts.

Is the Khartu-Al fragile?

It is less suitable for absorbing direct fire than more durable fighters. Its exposed articulated thruster structures are important to its mobility and can become significant vulnerabilities when damaged.

Khartu-Al or San’tok.yāi: which should I choose?

Choose the Khartu-Al if you want the lighter Xi’an scout with more unusual movement, faster repositioning, and a stronger skirmisher identity. Choose the San’tok.yāi if you want a medium Xi’an fighter with more weapons and a more direct combat role. The Khartu-Al is better for movement-focused pilots; the San’tok.yāi is better for players who want heavier Xi’an combat.

Khartu-Al or Gladius: which is better for beginners?

The Gladius is generally the clearer beginner choice because it uses a more conventional light-fighter layout and combat style. The Khartu-Al is better for an experienced pilot who specifically wants alien movement.

Is the Khartu-Al good for beginners?

Not usually as a first fighter. The Khartu-Al is easy to deploy because it has one seat, but its movement style is unusual and less forgiving than a Gladius or Arrow. New pilots may struggle with aiming while strafing, managing acceleration, and avoiding damage to the exposed thruster assemblies. It is better for players who already understand basic fighter combat and want a more specialized alien flight style.

Should I choose the Khartu-Al, Blade, or Talon?

Choose the Khartu-Al if you want genuine Xi’an movement technology and scout-style evasive flying. Choose the Blade if you want Vanduul-style light-fighter aggression. Choose the Talon if you want Tevarin hit-and-run flavor. All three are specialist alien fighters, but the Khartu-Al is the most focused on unusual multidirectional movement.

Is the Khartu-Al good for PvE bounty hunting?

It can complete fighter-focused PvE missions when the pilot uses its movement effectively. However, limited weapon count and lower durability may make sustained high-level combat less comfortable than a heavier fighter.

Is the Khartu-Al good for PvP?

It can be difficult to hit in the hands of an experienced pilot, but it is not an automatic PvP advantage. Success depends on movement control, aim, target selection, current flight tuning, and avoiding damage to the exposed thruster assemblies.

Is the Khartu-Al an exploration ship?

It is a scout and was originally marketed with a scout/explorer description, but it is not a complete expedition ship. It has no cargo grid, bed, living space, or long-duration exploration facilities.

Does the Khartu-Al have an interior or bed?

No meaningful walkable living interior or bed should be expected. It is a single-seat cockpit fighter.

Will the Khartu-Al’s specifications change?

Possibly. Star Citizen remains under active development, and ship weapons, shields, movement, armor, signatures, components, and flight performance can change through balance updates. Current numerical references should be treated as live-reference values rather than permanent final specifications.

Who should choose the Khartu-Al instead of another fighter platform?

Choose it when the movement technology, bubble cockpit visibility, and genuine Xi’an scout identity are more important than additional weapons, missiles, cargo modules, or conventional Human fighter simplicity.

The Aopoa Khartu-Al is not the most heavily armed, durable, practical, or beginner-friendly light fighter. Its value comes from delivering a distinctive Xi’an flight experience through articulated thrusters, strong multidirectional movement, a distinctive bubble cockpit, and a genuine alien scout identity.

For pilots who enjoy evasive flying, fast vector changes, scouting, alien technology, and specialist ships that reward practice, the Khartu-Al offers an experience that conventional Human fighters rarely match in the same way.

Choose the Khartu-Al because you want the Xi’an scout and its unique movement — not because you expect agility alone to replace firepower, durability, or pilot skill.
