Ship rentals are useful when you need a mining, cargo, salvage, medical, or combat ship without buying one outright.

In Star Citizen Alpha 4.10.0, rental kiosks are available at major landing zones, orbital stations, Lagrange stations, Gateway stations, and Levski. Prices are not always identical between locations, so checking where you rent can save a noticeable amount of aUEC.

This guide covers the current rental network, one-day prices, rental locations, and the main restrictions you should know before spending your aUEC.

Price note: Rental prices can change with economy updates. Community databases may also lag behind the live server. If the kiosk shows a different number, use the in-game price.

The main reason to make the trip is the specialist inventory, especially the Vulture and several industrial ships.

Renting Ships at Orbital Stations

Several stations have rental kiosks inside their Cargo Centers.

Examples include:

This can save a lot of time. If the ship you need is available in orbit, there is little reason to fly down to a city, land, take public transport, and then find a rental shop.

How to Rent a Ship

1. Go to a Rental Location

Choose a location that carries the ship you want.

A few common examples:

  • Prospector: Lorville and several station rental terminals

  • Cutlass Black: Lorville and many station locations

  • ROC: Lorville, Vantage stations, and Levski

  • 600i Explorer: New Babbage

  • Vulture: Levski

  • C1 Spirit: Area18 or Orison

  • Constellation Andromeda: New Babbage

2. Find the Rental Kiosk

Look for one of these companies:

  • Traveler Rentals

  • Vantage Rentals

  • Regal Luxury Rentals

  • Teach's Rentals

Do not confuse a rental kiosk with a ship dealership. A dealership sells ships permanently; a rental kiosk only gives temporary access.

3. Choose the Ship

Open the vehicle list, select the ship, and check the price.

If the rate looks unusually high, another rental location may be cheaper.

4. Select the Rental Period

Choose one of the rental periods offered by the kiosk.

Do not rely on old 3-day, 7-day, or 30-day price charts from previous patches. Use the amount shown on the current terminal.

5. Complete the Rental

Confirm the purchase and pay with aUEC.

The rental timer begins immediately.

6. Retrieve the Ship

Go to a normal ASOP terminal.

The rented ship should appear in your vehicle list. Retrieve it the same way you would retrieve one of your owned ships.

How Rental Time Works

Rental time runs in real time.

Logging out does not stop the timer.

That makes preparation important. If you are renting a mining ship, buy your armor, multitool, supplies, and other equipment before starting the rental.

The same rule applies to expensive short-term rentals: do not rent the ship at the end of your play session and expect the timer to wait for you.

Can You Modify a Rented Ship?

Rented ships generally cannot have their component loadouts customized.

That means you should judge the ship by the equipment supplied with the rental.

This matters most for:

  • Mining ships

  • Combat ships

  • Ships that depend heavily on component upgrades

If you want full loadout control, buy the ship instead.

When Renting Makes Sense

Rent a ship when:

  • You want to test it before buying.

  • You are trying a profession for the first time.

  • You only need the ship for one session.

  • You cannot yet afford the permanent purchase.

  • You temporarily need more cargo or specialist capability.

Buy the ship when:

  • You use it regularly.

  • You want to change components.

  • You are repeatedly paying rental fees.

  • It has become part of your normal gameplay loop.

For most profession ships, the sensible progression is simple:

Rent it, learn the loop, then buy it if you keep using it.

Common Rental Problems

Rented Ship Does Not Appear in ASOP

This has been listed as a known Alpha 4.10 issue.

Try the least disruptive fixes first:

  1. Check another ASOP terminal.

  2. Confirm that the rental purchase completed.

  3. Return to the menu and reconnect.

  4. Try another server region.

  5. Give the backend a little time to synchronize.

Do not immediately rent the same ship again. If the problem is backend-related, you may simply pay twice.

Rental Kiosk Does Not Respond

Try another kiosk at the same location.

If all of them are unresponsive:

  • Leave and return.

  • Relog.

  • Change server region.

  • Use another rental location.

Ship Appears but Will Not Spawn

Try another ASOP terminal or another station.

Some locations may not be able to spawn every ship size correctly, and server-side issues can also interfere with retrieval.

Rented Ship Was Destroyed

Check the ASOP terminal.

If the ship has a Claim option, use the normal claim process.

Remove valuable cargo and loose items before deliberately claiming any ship whenever possible.

Rental Expired While Offline

That is normal.

The rental timer continues while you are logged out.

Tips Before You Rent

Prepare first. Buy equipment, supplies, armor, and tools before starting an expensive rental.

Check another location for expensive ships. A few thousand aUEC saved on every Prospector or Freelancer MAX rental adds up.

Do not plan around component upgrades. Rentals are meant to be used largely as supplied.

Empty the ship before expiration. Move valuable cargo and personal items somewhere safe if the timer is getting close.

Use orbital rentals when possible. They can save the long trip through a planetary landing zone.
